About
Why Thread?
Bible verses travel on their own: on tiles, in apps, on social media. Out of context a verse can start to say something it doesn't. Thread brings the context back, and shows how everything comes together in Jesus Christ.
- 01
The name
A “red thread” is what holds everything together. For us that is Jesus: “he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself” (Luke 24:27). Thread helps you discover that line for yourself.
- 02
Context first
Every text comes with the verses before and after it, the structure of its chapter and book, and a context card with genre, time and first readers.
- 03
Three layers, kept apart
What the text says, the historical and literary background, and interpretation are three different things. We keep them visibly separate.
- 04
No false certainty
Where scholars or churches differ, we say so briefly and neutrally. Honest rather than overconfident.

Three layers, on one verse
This is how we keep text, background and interpretation apart. Pick a layer: each has its own colour, everywhere in Thread.
Јер ја знам мисли које мислим за вас, говори Господ, мисли добре а не зле, да вам дам последак какав чекате.Layer 1 · what the text itself says
God zegt dat Hij de plannen kent die Hij voor zijn volk heeft: plannen voor vrede en niet voor onheil, om hun toekomst en hoop te geven. De zin staat midden in een brief met praktische opdrachten en een duidelijke tijdsaanduiding.
About the translations
Each language reads in its own public-domain translation, such as the Statenvertaling (1637), the Louis Segond (1910), the World English Bible and the Elberfelder (1905); the Portuguese Bíblia Livre has a free licence (Creative Commons BY). The full list is at the bottom of every page. Their language is sometimes old, so we write the explanations and family moments in plain, present-day words. We'll add modern translations as soon as we have a licence.
