1Вот имена сынов Израилевых, которые вошли в Египет с Иаковом [отцом их], вошли каждый со [всем] домом своим: 2Рувим, Симеон, Левий и Иуда, 3Иссахар, Завулон и Вениамин, 4Дан и Неффалим, Гад и Асир. 5Всех же душ, происшедших от чресл Иакова, было семьдесят [пять], а Иосиф был уже в Египте. 6И умер Иосиф и все братья его и весь род их; 7а сыны Израилевы расплодились и размножились, и возросли и усилились чрезвычайно, и наполнилась ими земля та. 8И восстал в Египте новый царь, который не знал Иосифа, 9и сказал народу своему: вот, народ сынов Израилевых многочислен и сильнее нас; 10перехитрим же его, чтобы он не размножался; иначе, когда случится война, соединится и он с нашими неприятелями, и вооружится против нас, и выйдет из земли [нашей]. 11И поставили над ним начальников работ, чтобы изнуряли его тяжкими работами. И он построил фараону Пифом и Раамсес, города для запасов, [и он, иначе Илиополь]. 12Но чем более изнуряли его, тем более он умножался и тем более возрастал, так что [Египтяне] опасались сынов Израилевых. 13И потому Египтяне с жестокостью принуждали сынов Израилевых к работам 14и делали жизнь их горькою от тяжкой работы над глиною и кирпичами и от всякой работы полевой, от всякой работы, к которой принуждали их с жестокостью. 15Царь Египетский повелел повивальным бабкам Евреянок, из коих одной имя Шифра, а другой Фуа, 16и сказал [им]: когда вы будете повивать у Евреянок, то наблюдайте при родах: если будет сын, то умерщвляйте его, а если дочь, то пусть живет. 17Но повивальные бабки боялись Бога и не делали так, как говорил им царь Египетский, и оставляли детей в живых. 18Царь Египетский призвал повивальных бабок и сказал им: для чего вы делаете такое дело, что оставляете детей в живых? 19Повивальные бабки сказали фараону: Еврейские женщины не так, как Египетские; они здоровы, ибо прежде нежели придет к ним повивальная бабка, они уже рождают. 20За сие Бог делал добро повивальным бабкам, а народ умножался и весьма усиливался. 21И так как повивальные бабки боялись Бога, то Он устроял домы их. 22Тогда фараон всему народу своему повелел, говоря: всякого новорожденного [у Евреев] сына бросайте в реку, а всякую дочь оставляйте в живых.
1Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt (every man and his household came with Jacob): 2Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, 3Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, 4Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. 5All the souls who came out of Jacob’s body were seventy souls, and Joseph was in Egypt already. 6Joseph died, as did all his brothers, and all that generation. 7The children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them. 8Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who didn’t know Joseph. 9He said to his people, “Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we. 10Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies, and fight against us, and escape out of the land.” 11Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built storage cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses. 12But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. They were grieved because of the children of Israel. 13The Egyptians ruthlessly made the children of Israel serve, 14and they made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and in brick, and in all kinds of service in the field, all their service, in which they ruthlessly made them serve. 15The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah, 16and he said, “When you perform the duty of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them on the birth stool; if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.” 17But the midwives feared God, and didn’t do what the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the baby boys alive. 18The king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, “Why have you done this thing, and have saved the boys alive?” 19The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women aren’t like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous, and give birth before the midwife comes to them.” 20God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very mighty. 21Because the midwives feared God, he gave them families. 22Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “You shall cast every son who is born into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.”
1Dit nu zijn de namen der zonen van Israel, die in Egypte gekomen zijn, met Jakob; zij kwamen er in, elk met zijn huis. 2Ruben, Simeon, Levi, en Juda; 3Issaschar, Zebulon, en Benjamin; 4Dan en Nafthali, Gad en Aser. 5Al de zielen nu, die uit Jakobs heup voortgekomen zijn, waren zeventig zielen; doch Jozef was in Egypte. 6Toen nu Jozef gestorven was, en al zijn broeders, en al dat geslacht, 7Zo werden de kinderen Israels vruchtbaar en wiesen overvloedig, en zij vermeerderden, en werden gans zeer machtig, zodat het land met hen vervuld werd. 8Daarna stond een nieuwe koning op over Egypte, die Jozef niet gekend had; 9Die zeide tot zijn volk: Ziet, het volk der kinderen Israels is veel, ja, machtiger dan wij. 10Komt aan, laat ons wijselijk tegen hetzelve handelen, opdat het niet vermenigvuldige, en het geschiede, als er enige krijg voorvalt, dat het zich ook niet vervoege tot onze vijanden, en tegen ons strijde, en uit het land optrekke. 11En zij zetten oversten der schattingen over hetzelve, om het te verdrukken met hun lasten; want men bouwde voor Farao schatsteden, Pitom en Raamses. 12Maar hoe meer zij het verdrukten, hoe meer het vermeerderde, en hoe meer het wies; zodat zij verdrietig waren vanwege de kinderen Israels. 13En de Egyptenaars deden de kinderen Israels dienen met hardigheid. 14Zodat zij hun het leven bitter maakten met harden dienst, in leem en in tichelstenen, en met allen dienst op het veld, met al hun dienst, dien zij hen deden dienen met hardigheid. 15Daarenboven sprak de koning van Egypte tot de vroedvrouwen der Hebreinnen, welker ener naam Sifra, en de naam der andere Pua was; 16En zeide: Wanneer gij de Hebreinnen in het baren helpt, en ziet haar op de stoelen; is het een zoon, zo doodt hem; maar is het een dochter, zo laat haar leven! 17Doch de vroedvrouwen vreesden God, en deden niet, gelijk als de koning van Egypte tot haar gesproken had, maar zij behielden de knechtjes in het leven. 18Toen riep de koning van Egypte de vroedvrouwen, en zeide tot haar: Waarom hebt gij deze zaak gedaan, dat gij de knechtjes in het leven behouden hebt? 19En de vroedvrouwen zeiden tot Farao: Omdat de Hebreinnen niet zijn gelijk de Egyptische vrouwen; want zij zijn sterk; eer de vroedvrouw tot haar komt, zo hebben zij gebaard. 20Daarom deed God aan de vroedvrouwen goed; en dat volk vermeerderde, en het werd zeer machtig. 21En het geschiedde, dewijl de vroedvrouwen God vreesden, zo bouwde Hij haar huizen. 22Toen gebood Farao aan al zijn volk, zeggende: Alle zonen, die geboren worden, zult gij in de rivier werpen, maar al de dochteren in het leven behouden.
