1И отложился Моав от Израиля по смерти Ахава. 2Охозия же упал чрез решетку с горницы своей, что в Самарии, и занемог. И послал послов, и сказал им: пойдите, спросите у Веельзевула, божества Аккаронского: выздоровею ли я от сей болезни? [И пошли они спрашивать.] 3Тогда Ангел Господень сказал Илии Фесвитянину: встань, пойди навстречу посланным от царя Самарийского и скажи им: разве нет Бога в Израиле, что вы идете вопрошать Веельзевула, божество Аккаронское? 4За это так говорит Господь: с постели, на которую ты лег, не сойдешь с нее, но умрешь. И пошел Илия, [и сказал им]. 5И возвратились к Охозии посланные. И он сказал им: что это вы возвратились? 6И сказали ему: навстречу нам вышел человек и сказал нам: пойдите, возвратитесь к царю, который послал вас, и скажите ему: так говорит Господь: разве нет Бога в Израиле, что ты посылаешь вопрошать Веельзевула, божество Аккаронское? За то с постели, на которую ты лег, не сойдешь с нее, но умрешь. 7И сказал им: каков видом тот человек, который вышел навстречу вам и говорил вам слова сии? 8Они сказали ему: человек тот весь в волосах и кожаным поясом подпоясан по чреслам своим. И сказал он: это Илия Фесвитянин. 9И послал к нему пятидесятника с его пятидесятком. И он взошел к нему, когда Илия сидел на верху горы, и сказал ему: человек Божий! царь говорит: сойди. 10И отвечал Илия, и сказал пятидесятнику: если я человек Божий, то пусть сойдет огонь с неба и попалит тебя и твой пятидесяток. И сошел огонь с неба и попалил его и пятидесяток его. 11И послал к нему царь другого пятидесятника с его пятидесятком. И он стал говорить ему: человек Божий! так сказал царь: сойди скорее. 12И отвечал Илия и сказал ему: если я человек Божий, то пусть сойдет огонь с неба и попалит тебя и твой пятидесяток. И сошел огонь Божий с неба, и попалил его и пятидесяток его. 13И еще послал в третий раз пятидесятника с его пятидесятком. И поднялся, и пришел пятидесятник третий, и пал на колена свои пред Илиею, и умолял его, и говорил ему: человек Божий! да не будет презрена душа моя и душа рабов твоих — сих пятидесяти — пред очами твоими; 14вот, сошел огонь с неба, и попалил двух пятидесятников прежних с их пятидесятками; но теперь да не будет презрена душа моя пред очами твоими! 15И сказал Ангел Господень Илии: пойди с ним, не бойся его. И он встал, и пошел с ним к царю. 16И сказал ему: так говорит Господь: за то, что ты посылал послов вопрошать Веельзевула, божество Аккаронское, как будто в Израиле нет Бога, чтобы вопрошать о слове Его, — с постели, на которую ты лег, не сойдешь с нее, но умрешь. 17И умер он по слову Господню, которое изрек Илия. 1Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab. 2Ahaziah fell down through the lattice in his upper room that was in Samaria, and was sick. So he sent messengers, and said to them, “Go, inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will recover of this sickness.” 3But Yahweh’s angel said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and tell them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel, that you go to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron? 4Now therefore thus says Yahweh, “You shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.”’” Elijah departed. 5The messengers returned to him, and he said to them, “Why is it that you have returned?” 6They said to him, “A man came up to meet us, and said to us, ‘Go, return to the king who sent you, and tell him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel, that you send to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.’”’” 7He said to them, “What kind of man was he who came up to meet you, and told you these words?” 8They answered him, “He was a hairy man, and wearing a leather belt around his waist.” He said, “It is Elijah the Tishbite.” 9Then the king sent a captain of fifty with his fifty to him. He went up to him; and behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. He said to him, “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down!’” 10Elijah answered to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty!” Fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty. 11Again he sent to him another captain of fifty and his fifty. He answered him, “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down quickly!’” 12Elijah answered them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty!” The fire of God came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty. 13Again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. The third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and begged him, and said to him, “Man of God, please let my life, and the life of these fifty your servants, be precious in your sight. 14Behold, fire came down from the sky, and consumed the two former captains of fifty with their fifties. But now let my life be precious in your sight.” 15Yahweh’s angel said to Elijah, “Go down with him. Don’t be afraid of him.” He arose, and went down with him to the king. 16He said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.’” 17So he died according to Yahweh’s word which Elijah had spoken. Jehoram began to reign in his place in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son. 18Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

En Elia ging weg. 5Zo kwamen de boden weder tot hem; en hij zeide tot hen: Wat is dit, dat gij wederkomt? 6En zij zeiden tot hem: Een man kwam op, ons tegemoet, en zeide tot ons: Gaat heen, keert weder tot den koning die u gezonden heeft, en spreekt tot hem: Zo zegt de HEERE: Is het, omdat er geen God in Israel is, dat gij zendt, om Baal-Zebub, den god van Ekron, te vragen? Daarom zult gij van dat bed, waarop gij geklommen zijt, niet afkomen, maar gij zult den dood sterven. 7En hij sprak tot hen: Hoedanig was de gestalte des mans, die u tegemoet opgekomen is, en deze woorden tot u gesproken heeft? 8En zij zeiden tot hem: Hij was een man met een harig kleed, en met een lederen gordel gegord om zijn lenden. Toen zeide hij: Het is Elia, de Thisbiet. 9En hij zond tot hem een hoofdman van vijftig met zijn vijftigen. En als hij tot hem opkwam (want ziet, hij zat op de hoogte eens bergs), zo sprak hij tot hem: Gij man Gods! de koning zegt: Kom af. 10Maar Elia antwoordde en sprak tot den hoofdman van vijftigen: Indien ik dan een man Gods ben, zo dale vuur van den hemel, en vertere u en uw vijftigen. Toen daalde vuur van den hemel, en verteerde hem en zijn vijftigen. 11En hij zond wederom tot hem een anderen hoofdman van vijftig met zijn vijftigen. Deze antwoordde en sprak tot hem: Gij, man Gods! zo zegt de koning: Kom haastelijk af. 12En Elia antwoordde en sprak tot hem: Ben ik een man Gods, zo dale vuur van den hemel, en vertere u en uw vijftigen. Toen daalde vuur Gods van den hemel en verteerde hem en zijn vijftigen. 13En wederom zond hij een hoofdman van de derde vijftigen met zijn vijftigen. Zo ging de derde hoofdman van vijftigen op, en kwam en boog zich op zijn knieen, voor Elia, en smeekte hem, en sprak tot hem: Gij, man Gods, laat toch mijn ziel en de ziel van uw knechten, van deze vijftigen, dierbaar zijn in uw ogen! 14Zie, het vuur is van den hemel gedaald, en heeft die twee eerste hoofdmannen van vijftigen met hun vijftigen verteerd; maar nu, laat mijn ziel dierbaar zijn in uw ogen! 15Toen sprak de Engel des HEEREN tot Elia: Ga af met hem; vrees niet voor zijn aangezicht. En hij stond op, en ging met hem af tot den koning. 16En hij sprak tot hem: Zo zegt de HEERE: Daarom, dat gij boden gezonden hebt, om Baal-Zebub, den god van Ekron, te vragen (is het, omdat er geen God in Israel is, om Zijn woord te vragen?); daarom, van dat bed, waarop gij geklommen zijt, zult gij niet afkomen, maar gij zult den dood sterven. 17Alzo stierf hij, naar het woord des HEEREN, dat Elia gesproken had; en Joram werd koning in zijn plaats, in het tweede jaar van Joram, den zoon van Josafat, den koning van Juda; want hij had geen zoon. 18Het overige nu der zaken van Ahazia, die hij gedaan heeft, is dat niet geschreven in het boek der kronieken der koningen van Israel?
