1Ai da cidade sanguinária, toda cheia de mentiras e de saques; o roubo não cessa. 2Ali há o som de açoite, e o estrondo do mover de rodas; os cavalos atropelam, e as carruagens vão se sacudindo. 3O cavaleiro ataca, a espada brilha, e a lança resplandece; e ali haverá muitos mortos, e multidão de cadáveres; haverá corpos sem fim, e tropeçarão nos corpos mortos. 4Por causa da multidão das prostituições da prostituta muito charmosa, mestra de feitiçarias, que vende os povos com suas prostituições, e as famílias com suas feitiçarias. 5Eis que estou contra ti,diz o SENHOR dos exércitos, e descobrirei tuas saias sobre tua face, e mostrarei tua nudez às nações, tua vergonha aos reinos. 6E lançarei sobre ti coisas abomináveis, e te envergonharei, e te tornarei em ridículo público. 7E será que todos os que te virem fugirão de ti, e dirão: Nínive está destruída; quem terá compaixão dela? Onde buscarei para ti consoladores? 8És tu melhor que Nô-Amom, que estava situada entre os rios, cercada de águas, cuja fortificação era o mar, e o rio como muralha? 9Cuxe e Egito era sua fortaleza sem limites; Pute e Líbia estavam para tua ajuda. 10Porém ela foi levada em cativeiro; também suas crianças foram despedaçadas nas esquinas de todas as ruas; e sobre seus nobres lançaram sortes, e todos seus maiorais foram aprisionados com grilhões. 11Tu também estarás bêbada, e te esconderás; tu também buscarás fortaleza por causa do inimigo. 12Todas as tuas fortalezas são como figueiras com os primeiros figos, que ao serem sacudidas, caem na boca de quem quer comer. 13Eis que teu exército será como mulheres no meio de ti; as portas de tua terra se abrirão a teus inimigos; fogo consumirá teus ferrolhos. 14Reserva para ti água para o cerco, fortifica as tuas fortalezas; entra na lama, pisa o barro, conserta o forno. 15Ali o fogo te consumirá, a espada te cortará, te consumirá como o inseto devorador. Multiplica-te como o inseto devorador; multiplica-te como o gafanhoto. 16Multiplicaste teus mercadores mais que as estrelas do céu; o inseto devorador estende as asas, e sai voando. 17Teus oficiais são como gafanhotos, e teus capitães como enxames de gafanhotos que pousam em nas paredes nos dias de frio; quando o sol se levanta eles voam, de modo que não se pode saber seu lugar onde estiveram. 18Teus pastores cochilam, ó rei da Assíria, teus nobres descansam; teu povo se espalhou pelos montes, e ninguém o ajuntará. 19Não há cura para tua ferida; tua chaga é fatal; todos os que ouviram tua fama baterão palmas por causa de ti, pois sobre quem tua maldade não passou continuamente?

1Woe to the bloody city! It is all full of lies and robbery. The prey doesn’t depart. 2The noise of the whip, the noise of the rattling of wheels, prancing horses, and bounding chariots, 3the horseman mounting, and the flashing sword, the glittering spear, and a multitude of slain, and a great heap of corpses, and there is no end of the bodies. They stumble on their bodies, 4because of the multitude of the prostitution of the alluring prostitute, the mistress of witchcraft, who sells nations through her prostitution, and families through her witchcraft. 5“Behold, I am against you,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and I will lift your skirts over your face. I will show the nations your nakedness, and the kingdoms your shame. 6I will throw abominable filth on you, and make you vile, and will set you a spectacle. 7It will happen that all those who look at you will flee from you, and say, ‘Nineveh is laid waste! Who will mourn for her?’ Where will I seek comforters for you?” 8Are you better than No-Amon, who was situated among the rivers, who had the waters around her; whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was of the sea? 9Cush and Egypt were her boundless strength. Put and Libya were her helpers. 10Yet was she carried away. She went into captivity. Her young children also were dashed in pieces at the head of all the streets, and they cast lots for her honorable men, and all her great men were bound in chains. 11You also will be drunken. You will be hidden. You also will seek a stronghold because of the enemy. 12All your fortresses will be like fig trees with the first-ripe figs: if they are shaken, they fall into the mouth of the eater. 13Behold, your troops in your midst are women. The gates of your land are set wide open to your enemies. The fire has devoured your bars. 14Draw water for the siege. Strengthen your fortresses. Go into the clay, and tread the mortar. Make the brick kiln strong. 15There the fire will devour you. The sword will cut you off. It will devour you like the grasshopper. Multiply like grasshoppers. Multiply like the locust. 16You have increased your merchants more than the stars of the skies. The grasshopper strips, and flees away. 17Your guards are like the locusts, and your officials like the swarms of locusts, which settle on the walls on a cold day, but when the sun appears, they flee away, and their place is not known where they are. 18Your shepherds slumber, king of Assyria. Your nobles lie down. Your people are scattered on the mountains, and there is no one to gather them. 19There is no healing your wound, for your injury is fatal. All who hear the report of you clap their hands over you; for who hasn’t felt your endless cruelty?

1Wee der bloedstad, die gans vol leugen, en verscheuring is! de roof houdt niet op. 2Er is het geklap der zweep, en het geluid van het bulderen der raderen; en de paarden stampen, en de wagens springen op. 3De ruiter steekt omhoog, zo het vlammende zwaard, als de bliksemende spies, en er zal veelheid der verslagenen zijn, en een zware menigte der dode lichamen; ja, er zal geen einde zijn der lichamen, men zal over hun lichamen struikelen; 4Om der grote hoererijen wil der zeer bevallige hoer, der meesteres der toverijen, die met haar hoererijen volken verkocht heeft, en geslachten met haar toverijen. 5Ziet, Ik wil aan u, spreekt de HEERE der heirscharen, en Ik zal uw zomen ontdekken boven uw aangezicht, en Ik zal den heidenen uw naaktheid, en den koninkrijken uw schande wijzen. 6En Ik zal verfoeilijke dingen op u werpen, en u tot schande maken, en Ik zal u als een spiegel stellen. 7En het zal geschieden, dat allen, die u zien, van u wegvlieden zullen en zeggen: Nineve is verstoord, wie zal medelijden met haar hebben? Van waar zal ik u troosters zoeken? 8Zijt gij beter dan No, de volkrijke, gelegen in de rivieren? die rondom henen water heeft, welker voormuur de zee is, haar muur is van zee. 9Morenland en Egypte waren haar macht, en er was geen einde; Put en Lybea waren tot uw hulp. 10Nog is zij gevankelijk gegaan in de gevangenis; ook zijn haar kinderen op het hoofd van alle straten verpletterd geworden; en over haar geeerden hebben zij het lot geworpen, en al haar groten zijn in boeien gebonden geworden. 11Ook zult gij dronken worden, gij zult u verbergen; ook zult gij een sterkte zoeken vanwege den vijand. 12Al uw vastigheden zijn vijgebomen met de eerste vruchten; indien zij geschud worden, zo vallen zij dien op den mond, die ze eten wil. 13Ziet, uw volk zal in het midden van u tot vrouwen worden; de poorten uws lands zullen uw vijanden wijd geopend worden; het vuur zal uw grendelen verteren. 14Schep u water ter belegering; versterk uw vastigheden; ga in de klei, en treed in het leem; verbeter den ticheloven. 15Het vuur zal u aldaar verteren; het zwaard zal u uitroeien, het zal u afeten, als de kevers, vermeerder u als sprinkhanen. 16Gij hebt meer handelaars, dan er sterren aan den hemel zijn; de kevers zullen invallen, en er van vliegen. 17Uw gekroonden zijn als de sprinkhanen, en uw krijgsoversten als de grote kevers, die zich in de heiningmuren legeren in de koude der dagen; wanneer de zon opgaat, zo vliegen zij weg, alzo dat hun plaats onbekend is, waar zij geweest zijn. 18Uw herders zullen sluimeren, o koning van Assur! uw voortreffelijken zullen zich leggen, uw volk zal zich op de bergen wijd uitbreiden, en niemand zal ze verzamelen. 19Er is geen samentrekking voor uw breuk, uw plage is smartelijk; allen, die het gerucht van u horen, zullen de handen over u klappen; want over wien is uw boosheid niet geduriglijk gegaan?
