1E eu, no primeiro ano de Dario o medo, estive para confortá-lo e fortalecê-lo. 2E agora eu te declararei a verdade. Eis que ainda haverá três reis na Pérsia, e o quarto acumulará mais riquezas que todos; e fortificando-se com suas riquezas, despertará a todos contra o reino da Grécia. 3Depois se levantará um rei poderoso, que reinará com grande domínio, e fará conforme sua vontade. 4Mas quando ele estiver erguido, seu reino será quebrantado, e repartido nos quatro ventos do céu; porém não a seus descendentes, nem conforme seu domínio com que ele reinou; porque seu reino será arrancado, e será para outros fora destes. 5E o rei do sul se fortalecerá; mas um de seus príncipes se fortalecerá mais que ele, e reinará; e seus domínio será um grande domínio. 6Mas ao fim de alguns anos eles se aliarão, e a filha do rei do sul virá ao rei do norte para fazer os acordos. Porém ela não poderá reter a força de seu poder; por isso nem ele, nem seu poder persistirá; porque ela será entregue, e os que a tiverem trazido, e seu pai, e ao que a fortalecia naqueles tempos. 7Mas do renovo de suas raízes um se levantará em seu lugar; e virá com exército, e entrará na fortaleza do rei do norte, e agirá contra eles, e prevalecerá. 8E até seus deuses com seus príncipes, com seus vasos preciosos de prata e de ouro, levará cativos ao Egito; e por alguns anos ele deixará de atacar o rei do norte; 9O qual virá ao reino o rei do sul, e voltará para sua terra. 10Porém os filhos dele se agitarão para a guerra ,e ajuntarão uma multidão de grandes exércitos; e certamente avançará, inundará, e passará; e quando voltar, se agitará em guerra até sua fortaleza. 11Então o rei do sul se enfurecerá, e sairá, e lutará contra ele, o rei do norte; e mobiliza uma grande multidão, porém toda aquela multidão será entregue em sua mão. 12Quando for perdida aquele multidão, seu coração se exaltará; e ainda que derrube muitos milhares; contudo não prevalecerá. 13E o rei do norte voltará, e porá em campo uma multidão maior que a primeira, e a fim do tempo de alguns anos avançará com grande exército e com muitos suprimentos. 14E naqueles tempos muitos se levantarão contra o rei do sul; e filhos dos violentos de teu povo se levantarão para confirmar a visão, e cairão. 15Então o rei do norte virá, e levantará cerco, e tomará a cidade forte; e os poderes do sul não poderão subsistir, nem os melhores de seu povo, nem haverá força que possa subsistir. 16E o que virá contra ele fará sua própria vontade, e não haverá quem possa subsistir diante dele; ele estará na terra gloriosa, e o poder de destruir estará em sua mão. 17Ele decidirá vir com o poder de todo seu reino; e os corretos com ele, e assim fará; e lhe dará uma filha de mulheres para destruir o reino ; mas ela não terá sucesso, nem será para proveito dele. 18Depois virará seu rosto para as terras costeiras, e tomará muitas; mas um príncipe fará cessar sua humilhação por ele, e ainda fará tornar sobre ele sua humilhação. 19Então virará seu rosto para as fortalezas de sua terra; mas tropeçará e cairá, e não será mais achado. 20E em seu lugar se levantará um que fará passar um cobrador de impostos para glória real; mas em poucos dias será quebrantado, não por causa de ira nem de batalha. 21Depois se levantará em seu lugar um ser desprezível, ao qual não darão a honra real; mas virá durante a quietude, e tomará o reino por meio de enganos. 22E exércitos em grande volume serão repelidos diante dele, e serão quebrantados; assim como também o príncipe do pacto. 23E depois de fizerem acordos com ele, ele usará engano, e subirá; será fortalecido mesmo com pouca gente. 24Quando houver tranquilidade nas mais prósperas regiões da província, ele virá e fará o que nunca fizeram seus pais, nem os pais de seus pais; ele repartirá presa, despojos, e riquezas entre os seus; e voltará seus pensamentos contra as fortalezas; porém somente por um tempo. 25E despertará sua forças e sua coragem contra o rei do sul, com grande exército; e o rei do sul se agitará para a guerra com grande e muito poderoso exército; mas não prevalecerá, porque tramarão planos contra ele. 26Até os que comerem de sua comida o destruirão; e seu exército será repelido, e muitos cairão mortos. 27E o coração destes dois reis será para fazer mal, e em uma mesma mesa falarão mentiras; mas isto não terá sucesso, pois ainda haverá o fim no tempo determinado. 28E voltará para sua terra com grande riqueza, e seu coração será contra o pacto santo; e ele fará o que decidir , e voltará a sua terra. 29A certo tempo voltará a vir ao sul; mas a última vinda não será como a primeira. 30Porque navios de Quitim virão contra ele, de modo que ele se entristecerá, voltará, e se indignará contra o pacto santo, e ele fará o que decidir ; pois quando voltar, ele dará atenção aos que tiverem abandonado o pacto santo. 31E tropas virão da parte dele, e profanarão o santuário e a fortaleza; tirarão o contínuo sacrifício , e porão uma abominação assoladora. 32E com lisonjas ele perverterá aos violadores do pacto; mas o povo que conhece a seu Deus com força resistirá. 33E os entendidos do povo ensinarão a muitos; porém cairão à espada e a fogo, por meio de cativeiro e de despojo, por muitos dias. 34E quando eles caírem, serão ajudados por um pequeno socorro; contudo muitos se aliarão a eles através de enganos. 35E alguns dos sábios cairão para serem refinados, purificados e limpos, até o tempo do fim; porque isto ainda será para o tempo determinado. 36E o rei fará a sua vontade; e se exaltará, e se engrandecerá sobre todo deus; ele falará coisas arrogantes contra o Deus dos deuses, e será próspero, até que a ira se complete; pois o que está determinado será feito. 37Ele não respeitará os deuses de seus pais, nem para o preferido das mulheres; nem respeitará deus algum, pois se engrandecerá sobre todos. 38Mas em seu lugar honrará ao deus das fortalezas, um deus que seus pais nem sequer conheceram; ele o horará com ouro, prata, pedras preciosas, e com coisas de grande valor. 39E ele atacará fortes fortalezas com o deus estrangeiro; aos que o reconhecerem, ele aumentará a honra; e ele os fará terem domínio sobre muitos, e repartirá a terra por preço. 40E no tempo do fim o rei do sul lutará contra ele; e o rei do norte levantará como tempestade contra ele, com carruagens, cavaleiros, e muitos navios; e entrará pelas terras, arruinará como se fosse inundação, e passará. 41E virá à terra gloriosa, e muitos povos cairão; mas estes escaparão de sua mão: Edom, Moabe, e os líderes dos filhos de Amom. 42E estenderá sua mão a outras terras, e a terra do Egito não escapará. 43E se apoderará dos tesouros de ouro e prata, e de todas as coisas valiosas do Egito, os líbios e os cuxitas o seguirão. 44Porém notícias do oriente e do norte o espantarão; e ele sairá com grande furor para destruir e matar muitos. 45E armará a tendas de seu palácio entre os mares, no glorioso monte santo; mas ele virá a seu fim, e não haverá quem o ajude.
1“As for me, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I stood up to confirm and strengthen him. 2Now will I show you the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and when he has grown strong through his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece. 3A mighty king shall stand up, who shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. 4When he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of the sky, but not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others besides these. 5The king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion. 6At the end of years they shall join themselves together; and the daughter of the king of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the strength of her arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm; but she shall be given up, and those who brought her, and he who became the father of her, and he who strengthened her in those times. 7But out of a shoot from her roots shall one stand up in his place, who shall come to the army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail. 8Also their gods, with their molten images, and with their goodly vessels of silver and of gold, shall he carry captive into Egypt; and he shall refrain some years from the king of the north. 9He shall come into the realm of the king of the south, but he shall return into his own land. 10His sons shall war, and shall assemble a multitude of great forces, which shall come on, and overflow, and pass through; and they shall return and war, even to his fortress. 11The king of the south shall be moved with anger, and shall come out and fight with him, even with the king of the north; and he shall send out a great multitude, and the multitude shall be given into his hand. 12The multitude shall be lifted up, and his heart shall be exalted; and he shall cast down tens of thousands, but he shall not prevail. 13The king of the north shall return, and shall send out a multitude greater than the former; and he shall come on at the end of the times, even of years, with a great army and with much substance. 14In those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the children of the violent among your people shall lift themselves up to establish the vision; but they shall fall. 15So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mound, and take a well-fortified city: and the forces of the south shall not stand, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to stand. 16But he who comes against him shall do according to his own will, and no one shall stand before him; and he shall stand in the glorious land, and in his hand shall be destruction. 17He shall set his face to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and with him equitable conditions; and he shall perform them: and he shall give him the daughter of women, to corrupt her; but she shall not stand, neither be for him. 18After this shall he turn his face to the islands, and shall take many: but a prince shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; yes, moreover, he shall cause his reproach to turn on him. 19Then he shall turn his face toward the fortresses of his own land; but he shall stumble and fall, and shall not be found. 20Then shall stand up in his place one who shall cause a tax collector to pass through the kingdom to maintain its glory; but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle. 21In his place shall stand up a contemptible person, to whom they had not given the honor of the kingdom: but he shall come in time of security, and shall obtain the kingdom by flatteries. 22The overwhelming forces shall be overwhelmed from before him, and shall be broken; yes, also the prince of the covenant. 23After the treaty made with him he shall work deceitfully; for he shall come up, and shall become strong, with a small people. 24In time of security shall he come even on the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers’ fathers; he shall scatter among them prey, and plunder, and substance: yes, he shall devise his devices against the strongholds, even for a time. 25He shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall war in battle with an exceeding great and mighty army; but he shall not stand; for they shall devise devices against him. 26Yes, they who eat of his dainties shall destroy him, and his army shall overflow; and many shall fall down slain. 27As for both these kings, their hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table: but it shall not prosper; for yet the end shall be at the time appointed. 28Then he will return into his land with great substance; and his heart will be against the holy covenant; and he will take action, and return to his own land. 29At the time appointed he shall return, and come into the south; but it shall not be in the latter time as it was in the former. 30For ships of Kittim shall come against him; therefore he shall be grieved, and shall return, and have indignation against the holy covenant, and shall take action: he shall even return, and have regard to those who forsake the holy covenant. 31Forces shall stand on his part, and they shall profane the sanctuary, even the fortress, and shall take away the continual burnt offering, and they shall set up the abomination that makes desolate. 32Such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he pervert by flatteries; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and take action. 33Those who are wise among the people shall instruct many; yet they shall fall by the sword and by flame, by captivity and by plunder, many days. 34Now when they shall fall, they shall be helped with a little help; but many shall join themselves to them with flatteries. 35Some of those who are wise shall fall, to refine them, and to purify, and to make them white, even to the time of the end; because it is yet for the time appointed. 36The king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvelous things against the God of gods; and he shall prosper until the indignation be accomplished; for that which is determined shall be done. 37Neither shall he regard the gods of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall magnify himself above all. 38But in his place shall he honor the god of fortresses; and a god whom his fathers didn’t know shall he honor with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. 39He shall deal with the strongest fortresses by the help of a foreign god: whoever acknowledges him he will increase with glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for a price. 40At the time of the end shall the king of the south contend with him; and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass through. 41He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall be delivered out of his hand: Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. 42He shall stretch out his hand also on the countries; and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps. 44But news out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him; and he shall go out with great fury to destroy and utterly to sweep away many. 45He shall plant the tents of his palace between the sea and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one shall help him.

doch zij zal de macht des arms niet behouden, daarom zal hij, noch zijn arm, niet bestaan; maar zij zal overgegeven worden, en die haar gebracht hebben, en die haar gegenereerd heeft, en die haar gesterkt heeft in die tijden. 7Doch uit de spruit van haar wortelen zal er een opstaan in zijn staat, die zal met heirkracht komen, en hij zal komen tegen die sterke plaatsen des konings van het Noorden, en hij zal tegen dezelve doen, en hij zal ze bemachtigen. 8Ook zal hij hun goden, met hun vorsten, met hun gewenste vaten van zilver en goud, in de gevangenis naar Egypte brengen; en hij zal enige jaren staande blijven boven den koning van het Noorden. 9Alzo zal de koning van het Zuiden in het koninkrijk komen, en hij zal wederom in zijn land trekken. 10Doch zijn zonen zullen zich in strijd mengen, en zij zullen een menigte van grote heiren verzamelen; en een van hen zal snellijk komen, en als een vloed overstromen en doortrekken; en hij zal wederom komen, en zich in den strijd mengen, tot aan zijn sterke plaats toe. 11En de koning van het Zuiden zal verbitterd worden, en hij zal uittrekken, en strijden tegen hem, tegen den koning van het Noorden, die ook een grote menigte oprichten zal, doch die menigte zal in zijn hand gegeven worden. 12Als die menigte zal weggenomen zijn, zal zijn hart zich verheffen, en hij zal er enige tien duizenden nedervellen; evenwel zal hij niet gesterkt worden. 13Want de koning van het Noorden zal wederkeren, en hij zal een groter menigte dan de eerste was, oprichten; en aan het einde van de tijden der jaren, zal hij snellijk komen met een grote heirkracht, en met groot goed. 14Ook zullen er in die tijden velen opstaan tegen den koning van het Zuiden; en de scheurmakers uws volks zullen verheven worden, om het gezicht te bevestigen, doch zij zullen vallen. 15En de koning van het Noorden zal komen, en een wal opwerpen, en vaste steden innemen; en de armen van het Zuiden zullen niet bestaan, noch zijn uitgelezen volk, ja, er zal geen kracht zijn om te bestaan. 16Maar hij, die tegen hem komt, zal doen naar zijn welgevallen, en niemand zal voor zijn aangezicht bestaan; hij zal ook staan in het land des sieraads, en de verderving zal in zijn hand wezen. 17En hij zal zijn aangezicht stellen, om met de kracht zijns gansen rijks te komen, en hij zal billijke voorwaarden medebrengen, en hij zal het doen; want hij zal hem een dochter der vrouwen geven, om haar te verderven, maar zij zal niet vast staan, en zij zal voor hem niet zijn. 18Daarna zal hij zijn aangezicht tot de eilanden keren, en hij zal er vele innemen; doch een overste zal zijn smaad tegen hem doen ophouden, behalve dat hij zijn smaad op hem zal doen wederkeren. 19En hij zal zijn aangezicht keren naar de sterkten zijns lands, en hij zal aanstoten, en vallen, en niet gevonden worden. 20En in zijn staat zal er een opstaan, doende een geldeiser doortrekken, in koninklijke heerlijkheid; maar hij zal in enige dagen gebroken worden, nochtans niet door toornigheden, noch door oorlog. 21Daarna zal er een verachte in zijn staat staan, denwelken men de koninklijke waardigheid niet zal geven; doch hij zal in stilheid komen, en het koninkrijk door vleierijen bemachtigen. 22En de armen der overstroming zullen overstroomd worden van voor zijn aangezicht, en zij zullen verbroken worden, en ook de vorst des verbonds. 23En na de vereniging met hem zal hij bedrog plegen, en hij zal optrekken, en hij zal met weinig volks gesterkt worden. 24Met stilheid zal hij ook in de vette plaatsen des landschaps komen, en hij zal doen, dat zijn vaders, of de vaders zijner vaderen, niet gedaan hebben; roof, en buit, en goederen, zal hij onder hen uitstrooien, en hij zal tegen de vastigheden zijn gedachten denken, doch tot een zekeren tijd toe. 25En hij zal zijn kracht en zijn hart verwekken tegen den koning van het Zuiden, met een grote heirkracht; en de koning van het Zuiden zal zich in den strijd mengen met een grote en zeer machtige heirkracht; doch hij zal niet bestaan, want zij zullen gedachten tegen hem denken. 26En die de stukken zijner spijze zullen eten, zullen hem breken, en de heirkracht deszelven zal overstromen, en vele verslagenen zullen vallen. 27En het hart van beide deze koningen zal wezen om kwaad te doen, en aan een tafel zullen zij leugen spreken; en het zal niet gelukken, want het zal nog een einde hebben ter bestemder tijd. 28En hij zal in zijn land wederkeren met groot goed, en zijn hart zal zijn tegen het heilig verbond; en hij zal het doen, en wederkeren in zijn land. 29Ter bestemder tijd zal hij wederkeren, en tegen het Zuiden komen, doch het zal niet zijn gelijk de eerste, noch gelijk de laatste reize. 30Want er zullen schepen van Chittim tegen hem komen, daarom zal hij met smart bevangen worden, en hij zal wederkeren, en gram worden tegen het heilig verbond, en hij zal het doen; want wederkerende zal hij acht geven op de verlaters des heiligen verbonds. 31En er zullen armen uit hem ontstaan, en zij zullen het heiligdom ontheiligen, en de sterkte, en zij zullen het gedurige offer wegnemen, en een verwoestenden gruwel stellen. 32En die goddelooslijk handelen tegen het verbond, zal hij doen huichelen door vleierijen; maar het volk, die hun God kennen, zullen zij grijpen, en zullen het doen. 33En de leraars des volks zullen er velen onderwijzen, en zij zullen vallen door het zwaard en door vlam, door gevangenis en door beroving, vele dagen. 34Als zij nu zullen vallen, zullen zij met een kleine hulp geholpen worden; doch velen zullen zich door vleierijen tot hen vervoegen. 35En van de leraars zullen er sommigen vallen, om hen te louteren en te reinigen, en wit te maken, tot den tijd van het einde toe; want het zal nog zijn voor een bestemden tijd. 36En die koning zal doen naar zijn welgevallen, en hij zal zichzelven verheffen, en groot maken boven allen God, en hij zal tegen den God der goden wonderlijke dingen spreken; en hij zal voorspoedig zijn, totdat de gramschap voleind zij, want het is vastelijk besloten, het zal geschieden. 37En op de goden zijner vaderen zal hij geen acht geven, noch op de begeerte der vrouwen; hij zal ook op geen God acht geven, maar hij zal zich boven alles groot maken. 38En hij zal den god Mauzzim in zijn standplaats eren; namelijk den god, welken zijn vaders niet gekend hebben, zal hij eren met goud, en met zilver, en met kostelijk gesteente, en met gewenste dingen. 39En hij zal de vastigheden der sterkten maken met den vreemden god; dengenen, die hij kennen zal, zal hij de eer vermenigvuldigen, en hij zal ze doen heersen over velen, en hij zal het land uitdelen om prijs. 40En op den tijd van het einde, zal de koning van het Zuiden tegen hem met hoornen stoten; en de koning van het Noorden zal tegen hem aanstormen, met wagenen, en met ruiteren, en met vele schepen; en hij zal in de landen komen, en hij zal ze overstromen en doortrekken. 41En hij zal komen in het land des sieraads, en vele landen zullen ter nedergeworpen worden; doch deze zullen zijn hand ontkomen, Edom en Moab, en de eerstelingen der kinderen Ammons. 42En hij zal zijn hand aan de landen leggen, ook zal het land van Egypte niet ontkomen. 43En hij zal heersen over de verborgen schatten des gouds en des zilvers, en over al de gewenste dingen van Egypte; en die van Libye, en de Moren zullen in zijn gangen wezen. 44Maar de geruchten van het Oosten en van het Noorden zullen hem verschrikken; daarom zal hij uittrekken met grote grimmigheid om velen te verdelgen en te verbannen. 45En hij zal de tenten van zijn paleis planten tussen de zeeen aan den berg des heiligen sieraads; en hij zal tot zijn einde komen, en zal geen helper hebben.
