Filipi 1

1Dari Paulus dan Timotius, hamba Yesus Kristus, kepada semua orang kudus dalam Kristus Yesus yang ada di Filipi dan kepada para penilik jemaat serta majelis jemaat: 2Anugerah dan damai sejahtera dari Allah, Bapa kita, dan Tuhan Yesus Kristus menyertai kamu! 3Aku bersyukur kepada Allahku setiap kali aku mengingat kamu. 4Dalam doaku untuk kamu semua, aku selalu berdoa dengan sukacita 5karena kerja sama yang kamu berikan dalam pemberitaan Injil sejak hari pertama sampai sekarang. 6Aku sungguh yakin bahwa Ia yang telah memulai pekerjaan baik di antara kamu, Ia juga yang akan menyempurnakannya sampai hari Yesus Kristus. 7Sudah sepantasnya aku merasa seperti ini terhadap kamu karena kamu semua ada di hatiku. Baik ketika aku dipenjara maupun ketika aku memberikan pembelaan dan peneguhan akan Injil, kamu telah menjadi mitra bersamaku dalam anugerah Allah. 8Allah adalah saksiku, betapa aku merindukan kamu semua dalam kasih Yesus Kristus. 9Inilah doaku: Kiranya kasihmu semakin bertambah-tambah, dengan pengetahuan dan segala hikmat; 10sehingga kamu dapat memilih apa yang terbaik; supaya dirimu tulus dan tak bercacat pada hari Kristus; 11dan dipenuhi dengan buah-buah kebenaran yang datang melalui Kristus Yesus untuk kemuliaan dan pujian bagi Allah. 12Saudara-saudaraku, aku ingin kamu tahu bahwa apa yang telah terjadi padaku justru telah membawa kemajuan bagi Injil, 13sehingga seluruh pengawal istana dan semua orang lain tahu bahwa aku dipenjara bagi Kristus. 14Sebagian besar saudara seiman yang semakin yakin pada Tuhan karena pemenjaraanku ini, menjadi lebih berani memberitakan firman Allah tanpa rasa takut. 15Memang, ada orang-orang yang memberitakan Kristus karena iri dan persaingan, tetapi ada juga yang karena maksud baik. 16Mereka yang bermaksud baik melakukannya karena kasih sebab mereka tahu bahwa aku ditempatkan di sini bagi pembelaan Injil. 17Sedangkan yang bermaksud tidak baik, mereka melakukannya karena ambisi egois, tidak tulus dan berpikir mereka dapat menambah kesulitan untukku selama aku dipenjara. 18Lalu apa hasilnya? Yang penting adalah dengan cara apa pun, baik dengan maksud pura-pura maupun maksud benar, Kristus diberitakan, dan untuk itu aku bersukacita. Ya, dan aku akan terus bersukacita, 19sebab aku tahu bahwa melalui doa-doamu dan pertolongan Roh Kristus Yesus, apa yang telah terjadi padaku justru akan menjadi pembebasanku. 20Harapan yang kuyakini adalah aku sama sekali tidak mendapat malu. Sebaliknya, aku mendapat keberanian penuh agar Kristus, sebagaimana sekarang dan selalu, dimuliakan dalam tubuhku, baik dalam keadaan hidup atau mati. 21Karena bagiku, hidup adalah Kristus dan mati adalah keuntungan. 22Akan tetapi, jika aku harus hidup dalam tubuh ini, berarti aku akan bekerja menghasilkan buah. Lalu, mana yang harus aku pilih, aku tidak tahu. 23Aku terjepit di antara dua pilihan itu. Keinginanku adalah meninggalkan hidup ini dan bersama Kristus, karena itu jauh lebih baik. 24Akan tetapi, untuk kamu, akan lebih berguna jika aku tetap hidup dalam tubuh ini. 25Dengan keyakinan ini, aku tahu aku akan tinggal bersama kamu semua demi kemajuan dan sukacitamu dalam iman. 26Kalau aku kembali lagi kepadamu, maka kebanggaanmu akan bertambah dalam Yesus Kristus karena aku. 27Namun demikian, hiduplah dengan cara yang layak bagi Injil Kristus supaya kalau aku datang dan bertemu denganmu, atau kalau tidak datang, aku boleh mendengar bahwa kamu tetap berdiri teguh dalam satu roh, dengan satu pikiran, untuk berjuang bersama-sama bagi iman dari Injil. 28Jangan biarkan kamu ditakut-takuti oleh lawan-lawanmu, karena itu adalah tanda jelas kehancuran bagi mereka, tetapi keselamatan bagi kamu, dan tanda itu pun dari Tuhan. 29Sebab demi Kristus kamu telah dikaruniakan bukan hanya untuk percaya kepada-Nya, tetapi juga untuk menderita bagi Dia. 30Itulah sebabnya kamu menghadapi pergumulan-pergumulan yang sama seperti yang kamu lihat aku hadapi, dan yang sekarang kamu dengar aku masih sedang mengalami.

1Paul and Timothy, servants of Jesus Christ; To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and servants: 2Grace to you, and peace from God, our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3I thank my God whenever I remember you, 4always in every request of mine on behalf of you all making my requests with joy, 5for your partnership in furtherance of the Good News from the first day until now; 6being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. 7It is even right for me to think this way on behalf of all of you, because I have you in my heart, because, both in my bonds and in the defense and confirmation of the Good News, you all are partakers with me of grace. 8For God is my witness, how I long after all of you in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus. 9This I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment; 10so that you may approve the things that are excellent; that you may be sincere and without offense to the day of Christ; 11being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. 12Now I desire to have you know, brothers, that the things which happened to me have turned out rather to the progress of the Good News; 13so that it became evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my bonds are in Christ; 14and that most of the brothers in the Lord, being confident through my bonds, are more abundantly bold to speak the word of God without fear. 15Some indeed preach Christ even out of envy and strife, and some also out of good will. 16The former insincerely preach Christ from selfish ambition, thinking that they add affliction to my chains; 17but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the Good News. 18What does it matter? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed. I rejoice in this, yes, and will rejoice. 19For I know that this will turn out to my salvation, through your supplication and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, 20according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will in no way be disappointed, but with all boldness, as always, now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death. 21For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22But if I live on in the flesh, this will bring fruit from my work; yet I don’t know what I will choose. 23But I am in a dilemma between the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. 24Yet, to remain in the flesh is more needful for your sake. 25Having this confidence, I know that I will remain, yes, and remain with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, 26that your rejoicing may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my presence with you again. 27Only let your way of life be worthy of the Good News of Christ, that, whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your state, that you stand firm in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the Good News; 28and in nothing frightened by the adversaries, which is for them a proof of destruction, but to you of salvation, and that from God. 29Because it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer on his behalf, 30having the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear is in me.

1Paulus en Timotheus, dienstknechten van Jezus Christus, al den heiligen in Christus Jezus, die te Filippi zijn, met de opzieners en diakenen: 2Genade zij u en vrede van God, onzen Vader, en den Heere Jezus Christus. 3Ik dank mijn God, zo dikwijls als ik uwer gedenk. 4(Te allen tijd in al mijn gebed voor u allen met blijdschap het gebed doende) 5Over uw gemeenschap aan het Evangelie, van den eersten dag af tot nu toe; 6Vertrouwende ditzelve, dat Hij, Die in u een goed werk begonnen heeft, dat voleindigen zal tot op den dag van Jezus Christus; 7Gelijk het bij mij recht is, dat ik van u allen dit gevoel, omdat ik in mijn hart houde, dat gij, beide in mijn banden, en in mijn verantwoording en bevestiging van het Evangelie, gij allen, zeg ik, mijner genade mede deelachtig zijt. 8Want God is mijn Getuige, hoezeer ik begerig ben naar u allen, met innerlijke bewegingen van Jezus Christus. 9En dit bid ik God, dat uw liefde nog meer en meer overvloedig worde in erkentenis en alle gevoelen; 10Opdat gij beproeft de dingen, die daarvan verschillen, opdat gij oprecht zijt, en zonder aanstoot te geven, tot den dag van Christus; 11Vervuld met vruchten der gerechtigheid, die door Jezus Christus zijn tot heerlijkheid en prijs van God. 12En ik wil, dat gij weet, broeders, dat hetgeen aan mij is geschied, meer tot bevordering van het Evangelie gekomen is; 13Alzo dat mijn banden in Christus openbaar geworden zijn in het ganse rechthuis, en aan alle anderen; 14En dat het meerder deel der broederen in den Heere, door mijn banden vertrouwen gekregen hebbende, overvloediger het Woord onbevreesd durven spreken. 15Sommigen prediken ook wel Christus door nijd en twist, maar sommigen ook door goedwilligheid. 16Genen verkondigen wel Christus uit twisting, niet zuiver, menende aan mijn banden verdrukking toe te brengen; 17Doch dezen uit liefde, dewijl zij weten, dat ik tot verantwoording van het Evangelie gezet ben. 18Wat dan? Nochtans wordt Christus op allerlei wijze, hetzij onder een deksel, hetzij in der waarheid, verkondigd; en daarin verblijd ik mij, ja, ik zal mij ook verblijden. 19Want ik weet, dat dit mij ter zaligheid gedijen zal, door uw gebed en toebrenging des Geestes van Jezus Christus. 20Volgens mijn ernstige verwachting en hoop, dat ik in geen zaak zal beschaamd worden; maar dat in alle vrijmoedigheid, gelijk te allen tijd, alzo ook nu, Christus zal groot gemaakt worden in mijn lichaam, hetzij door het leven, hetzij door den dood. 21Want het leven is mij Christus, en het sterven is mij gewin. 22Maar of te leven in het vlees, hetzelve mij oorbaar zij, en wat ik verkiezen zal, weet ik niet. 23Want ik word van deze twee gedrongen, hebbende begeerte, om ontbonden te worden en met Christus te zijn; want dat is zeer verre het beste. 24Maar in het vlees te blijven, is nodiger om uwentwil. 25En dit vertrouw en weet ik, dat ik zal blijven, en met u allen zal verblijven tot uw bevordering en blijdschap des geloofs; 26Opdat uw roem in Christus Jezus overvloedig zij aan mij, door mijn tegenwoordigheid wederom bij u. 27Alleenlijk wandelt waardiglijk het Evangelie van Christus, opdat, hetzij ik kom en u zie, hetzij ik afwezig ben, ik van uw zaken moge horen, dat gij staat in een geest, met een gemoed gezamenlijk strijdende door het geloof des Evangelies; 28En dat gij in geen ding verschrikt wordt van degenen, die tegenstaan; hetwelk hun wel een bewijs is des verderfs, maar u der zaligheid, en dat van God. 29Want u is uit genade gegeven in de zaak van Christus, niet alleen in Hem te geloven, maar ook voor Hem te lijden; 30Denzelfden strijd hebbende, hoedanigen gij in mij gezien hebt, en nu in mij hoort.
