1Pierre, apôtre de Jésus-Christ, à ceux qui sont étrangers et dispersés dans le Pont, la Galatie, la Cappadoce, l’Asie et la Bithynie, 2et qui sont élus selon la prescience de Dieu le Père, par la sanctification de l’Esprit, afin qu’ils deviennent obéissants, et qu’ils participent à l’aspersion du sang de Jésus-Christ : que la grâce et la paix vous soient multipliées ! 3Béni soit Dieu, le Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, qui, selon sa grande miséricorde, nous a régénérés, pour une espérance vivante, par la résurrection de Jésus-Christ d’entre les morts, 4pour un héritage qui ne se peut ni corrompre, ni souiller, ni flétrir, lequel vous est réservé dans les cieux, 5à vous qui, par la puissance de Dieu, êtes gardés par la foi pour le salut prêt à être révélé dans les derniers temps ! 6C’est là ce qui fait votre joie, quoique maintenant, puisqu’il le faut, vous soyez attristés pour un peu de temps par diverses épreuves, 7afin que l’épreuve de votre foi, plus précieuse que l’or périssable (qui cependant est éprouvé par le feu), ait pour résultat la louange, la gloire et l’honneur, lorsque Jésus-Christ apparaîtra, 8lui que vous aimez sans l’avoir vu, en qui vous croyez sans le voir encore, vous réjouissant d’une joie ineffable et glorieuse, 9parce que vous obtiendrez le salut de vos âmes pour prix de votre foi. 10Les prophètes, qui ont prophétisé touchant la grâce qui vous était réservée, ont fait de ce salut l’objet de leurs recherches et de leurs investigations, 11voulant sonder l’époque et les circonstances marquées par l’Esprit de Christ qui était en eux, et qui attestait d’avance les souffrances de Christ et la gloire dont elles seraient suivies. 12Il leur fut révélé que ce n’était pas pour eux-mêmes, mais pour vous, qu’ils étaient les dispensateurs de ces choses, que vous ont annoncées maintenant ceux qui vous ont prêché l’Évangile par le Saint-Esprit envoyé du ciel, et dans lesquelles les anges désirent plonger leurs regards. 13C’est pourquoi, ceignez les reins de votre entendement, soyez sobres, et ayez une entière espérance dans la grâce qui vous sera apportée, lorsque Jésus-Christ apparaîtra. 14Comme des enfants obéissants, ne vous conformez pas aux convoitises que vous aviez autrefois, quand vous étiez dans l’ignorance. 15Mais, puisque celui qui vous a appelés est saint, vous aussi soyez saints dans toute votre conduite, selon qu’il est écrit : 16Vous serez saints, car je suis saint. 17Et si vous invoquez comme Père celui qui juge selon l’œuvre de chacun, sans acception de personnes, conduisez-vous avec crainte pendant le temps de votre pèlerinage, 18sachant que ce n’est pas par des choses périssables, par de l’argent ou de l’or, que vous avez été rachetés de la vaine manière de vivre que vous aviez héritée de vos pères, 19mais par le sang précieux de Christ, comme d’un agneau sans défaut et sans tache, 20prédestiné avant la fondation du monde, et manifesté à la fin des temps, à cause de vous, 21qui par lui croyez en Dieu, lequel l’a ressuscité des morts et lui a donné la gloire, en sorte que votre foi et votre espérance reposent sur Dieu. 22Ayant purifié vos âmes en obéissant à la vérité pour avoir un amour fraternel sincère, aimez-vous ardemment les uns les autres, de tout votre cœur, 23puisque vous avez été régénérés, non par une semence corruptible, mais par une semence incorruptible, par la parole vivante et permanente de Dieu. 24Car Toute chair est comme l’herbe, Et toute sa gloire comme la fleur de l’herbe. L’herbe sèche, et la fleur tombe ; 25Mais la parole du Seigneur demeure éternellement. Et cette parole est celle qui vous a été annoncée par l’Évangile.
1Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the chosen ones who are living as foreigners in the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, that you may obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with his blood: Grace to you and peace be multiplied. 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy became our father again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that doesn’t fade away, reserved in Heaven for you, 5who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been put to grief in various trials, 7that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ— 8whom not having known you love; in whom, though now you don’t see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory— 9receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 10Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, 11searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ, which was in them, pointed to, when he predicted the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that would follow them. 12To them it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to you, they ministered these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven; which things angels desire to look into. 13Therefore prepare your minds for action, be sober and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ— 14as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance, 15but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior; 16because it is written, “You shall be holy; for I am holy.” 17If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man’s work, pass the time of your living as foreigners here in reverent fear: 18knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers, 19but with precious blood, as of a faultless and pure lamb, the blood of Christ; 20who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of times for your sake, 21who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God. 22Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from the heart fervently: 23having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and remains forever. 24For, “All flesh is like grass, and all of man’s glory like the flower in the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls; 25but the Lord’s word endures forever.” This is the word of Good News which was preached to you.
1Petrus, een apostel van Jezus Christus, aan de vreemdelingen, verstrooid in Pontus, Galatie, Kappadocie, Azie en Bithynie, 2Den uitverkorenen naar de voorkennis van God den Vader, in de heiligmaking des Geestes, tot gehoorzaamheid en besprenging des bloeds van Jezus Christus; genade en vrede zij u vermenigvuldigd. 3Geloofd zij de God en Vader van onzen Heere Jezus Christus, Die naar Zijn grote barmhartigheid ons heeft wedergeboren, tot een levende hoop, door de opstanding van Jezus Christus uit de doden. 4Tot een onverderfelijke, en onbevlekkelijke, en onverwelkelijke erfenis, die in de hemelen bewaard is voor u, 5Die in de kracht Gods bewaard wordt door het geloof tot de zaligheid, die bereid is, om geopenbaard te worden in den laatsten tijd. 6In welke gij u verheugt, nu een weinig tijds (zo het nodig is) bedroefd zijnde door menigerlei verzoekingen; 7Opdat de beproeving uws geloofs, die veel kostelijker is dan van het goud, hetwelk vergaat en door het vuur beproefd wordt, bevonden worde te zijn tot lof, en eer, en heerlijkheid, in de openbaring van Jezus Christus; 8Denwelken gij niet gezien hebt, en nochtans liefhebt, in Denwelken gij nu, hoewel Hem niet ziende, maar gelovende, u verheugt met een onuitsprekelijke en heerlijke vreugde; 9Verkrijgende het einde uws geloofs, namelijk de zaligheid der zielen. 10Van welke zaligheid ondervraagd en onderzocht hebben de profeten, die geprofeteerd hebben van de genade, aan u geschied; 11Onderzoekende, op welke of hoedanigen tijd de Geest van Christus, Die in hen was, beduidde en te voren getuigde, het lijden, dat op Christus komen zou, en de heerlijkheid daarna volgende. 12Denwelken geopenbaard is, dat zij niet zichzelven, maar ons bedienden deze dingen, die u nu aangediend zijn bij degenen, die u het Evangelie verkondigd hebben door den Heilige Geest, Die van den hemel gezonden is; in welke dingen de engelen begerig zijn in te zien. 13Daarom opschortende de lenden uws verstands, en nuchteren zijnde, hoopt volkomenlijk op de genade, die u toegebracht wordt in de openbaring van Jezus Christus. 14Als gehoorzame kinderen, wordt niet gelijkvormig aan de begeerlijkheden, die te voren in uw onwetendheid waren; 15Maar gelijk Hij, Die u geroepen heeft, heilig is, zo wordt ook gijzelven heilig in al uw wandel; 16Daarom dat er geschreven is: Zijt heilig, want Ik ben heilig. 17En indien gij tot een Vader aanroept Dengene, Die zonder aanneming des persoons oordeelt naar eens iegelijks werk, zo wandelt in vreze den tijd uwer inwoning; 18Wetende dat gij niet door vergankelijke dingen, zilver of goud, verlost zijt uit uw ijdele wandeling, die u van de vaderen overgeleverd is; 19Maar door het dierbaar bloed van Christus, als van een onbestraffelijk en onbevlekt Lam; 20Dewelke wel voorgekend is geweest voor de grondlegging der wereld, maar geopenbaard is in deze laatste tijden om uwentwil, 21Die door Hem gelooft in God, Welke Hem opgewekt heeft uit de doden, en Hem heerlijkheid gegeven heeft, opdat uw geloof en hoop op God zijn zou. 22Hebbende dan uw zielen gereinigd in de gehoorzaamheid der waarheid, door den Geest, tot ongeveinsde broederlijke liefde, zo hebt elkander vuriglijk lief uit een rein hart; 23Gij, die wedergeboren zijt, niet uit vergankelijk, maar uit onvergankelijk zaad, door het levende en eeuwig blijvende Woord van God. 24Want alle vlees is als gras, en alle heerlijkheid des mensen is als een bloem van het gras. Het gras is verdord, en zijn bloem is afgevallen; 25Maar het Woord des Heeren blijft in der eeuwigheid; en dit is het Woord, dat onder u verkondigd is.
