Where everything comes from
Thread is free, and it wants to be honest about what it uses. Everything on this site is our own work or may be used freely. Here is where it comes from, under which conditions, and whom we credit.
Bible translations
Every language reads its own Bible: an old translation whose copyright has run out (public domain), or a newer one that its publisher has released under a Creative Commons licence. We do not use modern translations under copyright.
The texts come from getbible.net (from the CrossWire modules) and from eBible.org.
Thread shows only the Bible text itself: footnotes, headings and cross-references are left out. For the Creative Commons translations that counts as a change, which is why their credit says so. You may share those texts further under the same licence, with the credit below.

Louis Segond and Reina-Valera: the text itself is in the public domain. The digital file from CrossWire says "copyrighted, permission to distribute granted to CrossWire", because of the Strong's numbers added to it. Thread shows only the plain text.
"World English Bible" is a trademark of eBible.org: the text is shown here unchanged under that name.
Still being checked: Louis Segond, Reina-Valera, Riveduta, Kinh Thánh 1934, Bibelen 1930, Londona Biblio. All known sources give these as public domain, and they have been spread freely for years. But for some we do not know when every translator died, or the digital file says more than the text. We are asking. More per translation on the page Bible translations.
Temporarily unavailable: Indonesian
The Indonesian Bible we used (Alkitab Yang Terbuka, YLSA) may only be used non-commercially, and its copyright page also forbids changes. Because Thread accepts gifts and leaves out notes and headings, we took it off the site until the publisher gives permission.
Fonts
Fraunces, Figtree, Literata, Fredoka, Onest, Nunito, IBM Plex Mono and the Noto fonts for Arabic, Malayalam, Devanagari, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati and Gurmukhi: all under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, loaded from our own server. Two small files with only the letter J from Literata keep their copyright and licence line.
Icons
The icons are Tabler Icons by Paweł Kuna, under the MIT licence.
Maps
The dotted world map is made from Natural Earth data, which is in the public domain. The Bible map and the journey maps are drawn by hand from ordinary coordinates. No map tiles from others are loaded.
Music and sound
The music box plays only songs whose words and melody are in the public domain: their makers died more than 70 years ago. Thread plays them itself in your browser; there are no recordings by others. Of modern songs we show only the title, a short description and a link to their makers. The background sounds are made in your browser too.
Drawings and logo
All drawings, the little figures Spool and Bo, the logo and the app icons are Thread's own work. The explanations are our own text; Bible quotations in them come from the Statenvertaling (public domain).
In memoriam
The photographs and the memorial card on the page In memoriam come from the family. Flower design on the memorial card: Tess Van Snickt.
