In de woestijn gaf God elke dag brood uit de hemel. Jezus zegt: Ik ben het brood dat je echt laat leven.

Melchizedek met brood en wijn
Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine: and he was priest of God Most High.

Manna

In de woestijn laat God elke ochtend brood uit de hemel vallen, genoeg voor één dag.

Leven van wat God geeft, dag voor dag. Jezus leert bidden: 'geef ons heden ons dagelijks brood'.
Niet van brood alleen
He humbled you, and allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didn’t know, neither did your fathers know; that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of Yahweh’s mouth.

Vijf broden voor duizenden

Zoals God in de woestijn, voedt Jezus zijn volk in een 'woeste plaats'. Er blijft zelfs over.
Ik ben het brood des levens
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
What happens here
De dag na de broodvermenigvuldiging willen de mensen meer manna.

Jezus zegt: het manna was een teken. Ik ben het echte brood uit de hemel.
Dit is mijn lichaam
He took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in memory of me.”
What happens here
Op de avond voor zijn dood viert Jezus het Pascha met zijn leerlingen en breekt het brood.
How it comes together
Het brood wordt teken van zijn gebroken lichaam. Christenen vieren dit tot vandaag, 'tot Hij komt'.
De bruiloft van het Lam
He said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’” He said to me, “These are true words of God.”
