1Και ανέβη ο Βοόζ εις την πύλην και εκάθισεν εκεί· και ιδού, διέβαινεν ο συγγενής, περί του οποίου ώμίλησεν ο Βοόζ. Και είπεν, Ω συ, στρέψον, κάθισον ενταύθα. Ο δε είπεν, Εγώ θέλω εξαγοράσει αυτό. 5Και είπεν ο Βοόζ, Καθ' ην ημέραν αγοράσης τον αγρόν εκ της χειρός της Ναομί, πρέπει να λάβης και την Ρούθ την Μωαβίτιν, γυναίκα του αποθανόντος, διά να αναστήσης το όνομα του αποθανόντος επί της κληρονομίας αυτού. 6Και είπεν ο συγγενής, Δεν δύναμαι να εκπληρώσω το χρέος το συγγενικόν, μήποτε φθείρω την κληρονομίαν μου· εκπλήρωσον συ το χρέος μου το συγγενικόν, διότι δεν δύναμαι εγώ να εκπληρώσω αυτό. 7Ούτος δε ήτο ο τρόπος το πάλαι εν τω Ισραήλ περί του δικαιώματος της συγγενείας και περί της απαλλοτριώσεως, διά να βεβαιούται πας λόγος· ο άνθρωπος λύων το υπόδημα αυτού, έδιδεν εις τον πλησίον αυτού· και τούτο ήτο μαρτυρία εν τω Ισραήλ. 8Διά τούτο είπεν ο συγγενής προς τον Βοόζ, Αγόρασον αυτό εις σεαυτόν. Και έλυσε το υπόδημα αυτού. 9Τότε είπεν ο Βοόζ προς τους πρεσβυτέρους και πάντα τον λαόν, Μάρτυρες είσθε σήμερον, ότι ηγόρασα πάντα τα του Ελιμέλεχ και πάντα τα του Χελαιών και Μααλών, εκ της χειρός της Ναομί· 10και προσέτι, την Ρούθ την Μωαβίτιν την γυναίκα του Μααλών, έλαβον εις εμαυτόν διά γυναίκα, διά να αναστήσω το όνομα του αποθανόντος επί της κληρονομίας αυτού, διά να μη εξαλειφθή το όνομα του αποθανόντος εκ των αδελφών αυτού και εκ της πόλεως της κατοικίας αυτού· μάρτυρες είσθε σήμερον. 11Και πας ο λαός ο εν τη πύλη και οι πρεσβύτεροι είπαν, Μάρτυρες· ο Κύριος να κάμη την γυναίκα, ήτις εισέρχεται εις τον οίκόν σου, ως την Ραχήλ και ως την Λείαν, αίτινες ωκοδόμησαν αμφότεραι τον οίκον Ισραήλ· και ίσχυε εν Εφραθά και έσο περίφημος εν Βηθλεέμ· 12και ας γείνη ο οίκός σου ως ο οίκος του Φαρές, τον οποίον εγέννησεν η Θάμαρ εις τον Ιούδαν, εκ του σπέρματος το οποίον ο Κύριος θέλει δώσει εις σε εκ της νέας ταύτης. 13Και έλαβεν ο Βοόζ την Ρούθ, και έγεινε γυνή αυτού· και ότε εισήλθε προς αυτήν, ο Κύριος έδωκεν εις αυτήν σύλληψιν, και εγέννησεν υιόν. 14Και είπαν αι γυναίκες προς την Ναομί, Ευλογητός ο Κύριος, όστις σήμερον δεν σε απεστέρησε συγγενούς, ώστε το όνομα αυτού να καλήται εν τω Ισραήλ· 15και ούτος θέλει είσθαι εις σε αναψυχωτής της ζωής και θέλει θρέψει την πολιάν σου· διότι εγέννησεν αυτόν η νύμφη σου, ήτις σε αγαπά, ήτις είναι εις σε καλητέρα παρά επτά υιούς. 16Τότε έλαβεν η Ναομί το παιδίον και έθεσεν αυτό εις τον κόλπον αυτής και έγεινεν εις αυτό τροφός. 17Και αι γείτονες έδωκαν εις αυτό όνομα, λέγουσαι, Υιός εγεννήθη εις την Ναομί· και εκάλεσαν το όνομα αυτού Ωβήδ· ούτος είναι ο πατήρ του Ιεσσαί πατρός του Δαβίδ. 18Και αύτη είναι η γενεαλογία του Φαρές· ο Φαρές εγέννησε τον Εσρών, 19Εσρών δε εγέννησε τον Αράμ, Αράμ δε εγέννησε τον Αμιναδάβ, 20Αμιναδάβ δε εγέννησε τον Ναασσών, Ναασσών δε εγέννησε τον Σαλμών, 21Σαλμών δε εγέννησε τον Βοόζ, Βοόζ δε εγέννησε τον Ωβήδ, 22Ωβήδ δε εγέννησε τον Ιεσσαί, και ο Ιεσσαί εγέννησε τον Δαβίδ.
1Now Boaz went up to the gate, and sat down there. Behold, the near kinsman of whom Boaz spoke came by; to whom he said, “Come over here, friend, and sit down!” He turned aside, and sat down. 2He took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, “Sit down here.” They sat down. 3He said to the near kinsman, “Naomi, who has come back out of the country of Moab, is selling the parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech’s. 4I thought to disclose it to you, saying, ‘Buy it before those who sit here, and before the elders of my people.’ If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if you will not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know. For there is no one to redeem it besides you; and I am after you.” He said, “I will redeem it.” 5Then Boaz said, “On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must buy it also from Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead on his inheritance.” 6The near kinsman said, “I can’t redeem it for myself, lest I mar my own inheritance. Take my right of redemption for yourself; for I can’t redeem it.” 7Now this was the custom in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning exchanging, to confirm all things: a man took off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbor; and this was the way of attestation in Israel. 8So the near kinsman said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself.” He took off his shoe. 9Boaz said to the elders, and to all the people, “You are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, from the hand of Naomi. 10Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, I have purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead on his inheritance, that the name of the dead not be cut off from among his brothers, and from the gate of his place. You are witnesses this day.” 11All the people who were in the gate, and the elders, said, “We are witnesses. May Yahweh make the woman who has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, which two built the house of Israel; and treat you worthily in Ephrathah, and be famous in Bethlehem. 12Let your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, of the seed which Yahweh shall give you of this young woman.” 13So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife; and he went in to her, and Yahweh gave her conception, and she bore a son. 14The women said to Naomi, “Blessed be Yahweh, who has not left you this day without a near kinsman; and let his name be famous in Israel. 15He shall be to you a restorer of life, and sustain you in your old age, for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.” 16Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse to it. 17The women, her neighbors, gave him a name, saying, “There is a son born to Naomi”; and they named him Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David. 18Now this is the history of the generations of Perez: Perez became the father of Hezron, 19and Hezron became the father of Ram, and Ram became the father of Amminadab, 20and Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon became the father of Salmon, 21and Salmon became the father of Boaz, and Boaz became the father of Obed, 22and Obed became the father of Jesse, and Jesse became the father of David.

Toen zeide hij: Ik zal het lossen. 5Maar Boaz zeide: Ten dage, als gij het land aanvaardt van de hand van Naomi, zo zult gij het ook aanvaarden van Ruth, de Moabietische, de huisvrouw des verstorvenen, om den naam des verstorvenen te verwekken over zijn erfdeel. 6Toen zeide die losser: Ik zal het voor mij niet kunnen lossen, opdat ik mijn erfdeel niet misschien verderve; los gij mijn lossing voor u; want ik zal niet kunnen lossen. 7Nu was dit van ouds een gewoonheid in Israel, bij de lossing en bij de verwisseling, om de ganse zaak te bevestigen, zo trok de man zijn schoen uit en gaf die aan zijn naaste; en dit was tot een getuigenis in Israel. 8Zo zeide de losser tot Boaz: Aanvaard gij het voor u; en hij trok zijn schoen uit. 9Toen zeide Boaz tot de oudsten en al het volk: Gijlieden zijt heden getuigen, dat ik aanvaard heb alles, wat van Elimelech geweest is, en alles, wat van Chiljon en Machlon geweest is, van de hand van Naomi. 10Daartoe aanvaard ik mij ook Ruth, de Moabietische, de huisvrouw van Machlon, tot een vrouw, om den naam des verstorvenen over zijn erfdeel te verwekken, opdat de naam des verstorvenen niet worde uitgeroeid van zijn broederen, en van de poort zijner plaats; gijlieden zijt heden getuigen. 11En al het volk, dat in de poort was, mitsgaders de oudsten zeiden: Wij zijn getuigen; de HEERE make deze vrouw, die in uw huis komt, als Rachel en als Lea, die beiden het huis van Israel gebouwd hebben; en handel kloekelijk in Efratha, en maak uw naam vermaard in Bethlehem! 12En uw huis zij, als het huis van Perez (die Thamar aan Juda baarde), van het zaad, dat de HEERE u geven zal uit deze jonge vrouw. 13Alzo nam Boaz Ruth, en zij werd hem ter vrouwe, en hij ging tot haar in; en de HEERE gaf haar, dat zij zwanger werd en een zoon baarde. 14Toen zeiden de vrouwen tot Naomi: Geloofd zij de HEERE, Die niet heeft nagelaten u heden een losser te geven; en zijn naam worde vermaard in Israel! 15Die zal u zijn tot een verkwikker der ziel, en om uw ouderdom te onderhouden; want uw schoondochter, die u liefheeft, heeft hem gebaard, dewelke u beter is dan zeven zonen. 16En Naomi nam dat kind, en zette het op haar schoot, en werd zijn voedster. 17En de naburinnen gaven hem een naam, zeggende: Aan Naomi is een zoon geboren; en zij noemden zijn naam Obed; deze is de vader van Isai, Davids vader. 18Dit nu zijn de geboorten van Perez: Perez gewon Hezron; 19En Hezron gewon Ram; en Ram gewon Amminadab; 20En Amminadab gewon Nahesson; en Nahesson gewon Salma; 21En Salmon gewon Boaz, en Boaz gewon Obed; 22En Obed gewon Isai; en Isai gewon David.
