1Ο κατασυντρίβων ανέβη έμπροσθεν του προσώπου σου· φύλαττε το οχύρωμα, σκόπευσον την οδόν, ενίσχυσον τας οσφύς, ενδυνάμωσον την ισχύν σου σφόδρα. 2Επειδή ο Κύριος απέστρεψε την δόξαν του Ιακώβ καθώς την δόξαν του Ισραήλ· διότι οι τινακταί εξετίναξαν αυτούς και διέφθειραν τα κλήματα αυτών. 3Η ασπίς των ισχυρών αυτού είναι κοκκινοβαφής, οι άνδρες δυνάμεως ενδεδυμένοι ερυθρά· αι άμαξαι θέλουσι κινείσθαι με σίδηρον λάμποντα εν τη ημέρα της ετοιμασίας αυτού, και τα ελάτινα δόρατα θέλουσι σεισθή τρομερά. 4Αι άμαξαι θέλουσι θορυβείσθαι εν ταις οδοίς, θέλουσι συγκρούεσθαι η μία μετά της άλλης εν ταις πλατείαις· η θέα αυτών θέλει είσθαι ως λαμπάδες, θέλουσι τρέχει ως αστραπαί. 5Θέλει ενθυμηθή τους ανδρείους αυτού· αλλά θέλουσι κατολισθήσει εν τη οδώ αυτών· θέλουσι σπεύσει εις τα τείχη αυτής και ο συνασπισμός θέλει ετοιμασθή. 6Αι πύλαι των ποταμών θέλουσιν ανοιχθή και τα παλάτια θέλουσι διαλυθή. 7Και η καθεστώσα θέλει γυμνωθή, θέλει μετοικισθή, και αι δούλαι αυτής θέλουσιν αναδίδει στεναγμούς ως η φωνή των περιστερών, τύπτουσαι τα στήθη αυτών. 8Και η Νινευή είναι παλαιόθεν ως λίμνη υδάτων· ταύτα όμως θέλουσι φύγει. Στήτε, στήτε, θέλουσι φωνάζει· και ουδείς ο βλέπων οπίσω. 9Λαφυραγωγείτε το αργύριον, λαφυραγωγείτε το χρυσίον· διότι δεν είναι τέλος των θησαυρών αυτής· είναι πλήθος παντός σκεύους επιθυμητού. 10Εξεκενώθη και εξετινάχθη και ηρημώθη και η καρδία διαλύεται και τα γόνατα κλονίζονται και ωδίνες είναι εις πάσας τας οσφύς, τα δε πρόσωπα πάντων είναι απησβολωμένα. 11Που είναι το κατοικητήριον των λεόντων και η βοσκή των σκύμνων, όπου ο λέων, ο γηραιός λέων, περιεπάτει και ο σκύμνος του λέοντος, και δεν υπήρχεν ο εκφοβών; 12Ο λέων διεσπάραττεν ικανά διά τους σκύμνους αυτού και απέπνιγε διά τας λεαίνας αυτού, και εγέμιζε τα σπήλαια αυτού από θηράματος και τα κατοικητήρια αυτού από αρπαγής. 13Ιδού, εγώ είμαι εναντίον σου, λέγει ο Κύριος των δυνάμεων, και θέλω καύσει τας αμάξας σου μέχρι καπνού και η ρομφαία θέλει καταφάγει τους σκύμνους σου, και θέλω εξολοθρεύσει το θήραμά σου εκ της γης, και δεν θέλει ακουσθή πλέον η φωνή των πρέσβεών σου.

1He who dashes in pieces has come up against you. Keep the fortress! Watch the way! Strengthen your waist! Fortify your power mightily! 2For Yahweh restores the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel; for the destroyers have destroyed them, and ruined their vine branches. 3The shield of his mighty men is made red. The valiant men are in scarlet. The chariots flash with steel in the day of his preparation, and the pine spears are brandished. 4The chariots rage in the streets. They rush back and forth in the broad ways. Their appearance is like torches. They run like the lightnings. 5He summons his picked troops. They stumble on their way. They dash to its wall, and the protective shield is put in place. 6The gates of the rivers are opened, and the palace is dissolved. 7It is decreed: she is uncovered, she is carried away; and her handmaids moan as with the voice of doves, beating on their breasts. 8But Nineveh has been from of old like a pool of water, yet they flee away. “Stop! Stop!” they cry, but no one looks back. 9Take the plunder of silver. Take the plunder of gold, for there is no end of the store, the glory of all goodly furniture. 10She is empty, void, and waste. The heart melts, the knees knock together, their bodies and faces have grown pale. 11Where is the den of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked, the lion’s cubs, and no one made them afraid? 12The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his caves with the kill, and his dens with prey. 13“Behold, I am against you,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions; and I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers will no longer be heard.”

1De verstrooier trekt tegen uw aangezicht op, bewaar de vesting; bezichtig den weg; sterk de lenden, versterk de kracht zeer. 2Want de HEERE heeft de hovaardij Jakobs afgewend, gelijk de hovaardij Israels; want de ledigmakers hebben ze ledig gemaakt, en zij hebben hun wijnranken verdorven. 3De schilden zijner helden zijn rood gemaakt, de kloeke mannen zijn scharlakenvervig; de wagens zijn in het vuur der fakkelen, ten dage als hij zich bereidt; en de spiesen worden geschud. 4De wagens razen door de wijken, zij lopen ginds en weder op de straten; hun gedaanten zijn als der fakkelen, zij lopen door elkander henen als de bliksemen. 5Hij zal aan zijn voortreffelijken gedenken, doch zij zullen struikelen in hun tochten; zij zullen haasten naar hun muur, als het beschutsel vaardig zal wezen. 6De poorten der rivieren zullen geopend worden, en het paleis zal versmelten. 7En Huzab zal gevankelijk weggevoerd worden, men zal haar heten voortgaan; en haar maagden zullen haar geleiden, als met een stem der duiven, trommelende op haar harten. 8Nineve is wel als een watervijver, van de dagen af dat zij geweest is, doch zij zullen vluchten. Staat, staat! zal men roepen, maar niemand zal omzien. 9Rooft zilver, rooft goud, want er is geen einde des voorraads, der heerlijkheid van allerlei gewenste vaten. 10Zij is geledigd, ja, uitgeledigd, uitgeput, en haar hart versmelt, en de knieen schudden, en in al de lenden is smart, en hun aller aangezichten betrekken, als een pot. 11Waar is nu de woning der leeuwen, en die weide der jonge leeuwen? Alwaar de leeuw, de oude leeuw, en het leeuwenwelp wandelde, en er was niemand, die hen verschrikte. 12De leeuw, die genoeg roofde voor zijn welpen, en worgde voor zijn oude leeuwinnen, die zijn holen vervulde met roof, en zijn woningen met het geroofde. 13Ziet, Ik wil aan u, spreekt de HEERE der heirscharen, en Ik zal haar wagenen in rook verbranden, en het zwaard zal uw jonge leeuwen verteren, en Ik zal uw roof uitroeien van de aarde, en de stem uwer gezanten zal niet meer gehoord worden.
