1Και εξήφθη πάλιν η οργή του Κυρίου εναντίον του Ισραήλ, και διήγειρε τον Δαβίδ εναντίον αυτών να είπη, Ύπαγε, αρίθμησον τον Ισραήλ και τον Ιούδαν. 2Και είπεν ο βασιλεύς προς τον Ιωάβ, τον αρχηγόν του στρατεύματος, όστις ήτο μετ' αυτού· Δίελθε τώρα πάσας τας φυλάς του Ισραήλ, από Δαν έως Βηρ-σαβεέ, και απαρίθμησον τον λαόν, διά να μάθω τον αριθμόν του λαού. 3Και είπεν ο Ιωάβ προς τον βασιλέα, Είθε Κύριος ο Θεός σου να προσθέση εις τον λαόν εκατονταπλάσιον αφ' ό,τι είναι, και να ίδωσιν οι οφθαλμοί του κυρίου μου του βασιλέως· πλην διά τι ο κύριός μου ο βασιλεύς επιθυμεί το πράγμα τούτο; 4Ο λόγος όμως του βασιλέως υπερίσχυσεν επί τον Ιωάβ και επί τους αρχηγούς του στρατεύματος· και ήλθεν ο Ιωάβ και οι αρχηγοί του στρατεύματος απ' έμπροσθεν του βασιλέως, διά να απαριθμήσωσι τον λαόν τον Ισραήλ. 5Και διέβησαν τον Ιορδάνην και εστρατοπέδευσαν εν Αροήρ, εκ των δεξιών της πόλεως, της εν μέσω της φάραγγος Γαδ, και προς Ιαζήρ. 6Έπειτα ήλθον εις Γαλαάδ και εις την γην Ταχτίμ-οδσεί· και ήλθον εις Δαν-ιαάν και πέριξ, έως της Σιδώνος· 7και ήλθον εις το φρούριον της Τύρου και εις πάσας τας πόλεις των Ευαίων και των Χαναναίων· και εξήλθον κατά το νότιον του Ιούδα εις Βηρ-σαβεέ. 8Αφού δε περιώδευσαν πάσαν την γην, ήλθον εις Ιερουσαλήμ, εις το τέλος εννέα μηνών και είκοσι ημερών. 9Και έδωκεν ο Ιωάβ εις τον βασιλέα το κεφάλαιον της απαριθμήσεως του λαού· και ήσαν ο Ισραήλ οκτακόσιαι χιλιάδες άνδρες δυνάμεως σύροντες ρομφαίαν· και οι άνδρες του Ιούδα πεντακόσιαι χιλιάδες. 10Και η καρδία του Δαβίδ εκτύπησεν αυτόν, αφού απηρίθμησε τον λαόν. Και είπεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Κύριον, Ημάρτησα σφόδρα, πράξας τούτο· και τώρα, δέομαί σου, Κύριε, αφαίρεσον την ανομίαν του δούλου σου, ότι εμωράνθην σφόδρα. 11Και ότε εσηκώθη ο Δαβίδ το πρωΐ, ο λόγος του Κυρίου ήλθε προς τον Γαδ τον προφήτην, τον βλέποντα του Δαβίδ, λέγων, 12Ύπαγε και ειπέ προς τον Δαβίδ, ούτω λέγει Κύριος· Τρία πράγματα εγώ προβάλλω εις σέ· έκλεξον εις σεαυτόν εν εκ τούτων, και θέλω σοι κάμει αυτό. 13Ήλθε λοιπόν ο Γαδ προς τον Δαβίδ και ανήγγειλε προς αυτόν και είπε προς αυτόν, Θέλεις να επέλθωσιν εις σε επτά έτη πείνης επί την γην σου; ή τρεις μήνας να φεύγης απ' έμπροσθεν των εχθρών σου και να σε διώκωσιν; ή τρεις ημέρας να ήναι θανατικόν εν τη γη σου; τώρα συλλογίσθητι, και ιδέ ποίαν απόκρισιν θέλω φέρει προς τον αποστείλαντά με. 14Και είπεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Γαδ, Στενά μοι πανταχόθεν σφόδρα· ας πέσω λοιπόν εις την χείρα του Κυρίου, διότι είναι πολλοί οι οικτιρμοί αυτού· εις χείρα δε ανθρώπου ας μη πέσω. 15Απέστειλε λοιπόν ο Κύριος θανατικόν επί τον Ισραήλ, από πρωΐας μέχρι του διωρισμένου καιρού· και απέθανον εκ του λαού, από Δαν έως Βηρ-σαβεέ, εβδομήκοντα χιλιάδες ανδρών. 16Και ότε ο άγγελος εξέτεινε την χείρα αυτού κατά της Ιερουσαλήμ, διά να απολέση αυτήν, μετεμελήθη ο Κύριος περί του κακού, και είπε προς τον άγγελον, όστις έκαμεν εν τω λαώ την φθοράν, Αρκεί ήδη· σύρε την χείρα σου. Ήτο δε ο άγγελος του Κυρίου πλησίον του αλωνίου του Ορνά του Ιεβουσαίου. 17Και ελάλησεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Κύριον, ότε είδε τον άγγελον τον θανατόνοντα τον λαόν, και είπεν, Ιδού, εγώ ήμαρτον και εγώ ηνόμησα· ταύτα δε τα πρόβατα τι έπραξαν; κατ' εμού λοιπόν έστω η χειρ σου και κατά του οίκου του πατρός μου. 18Και ήλθεν ο Γαδ την ημέραν εκείνην προς τον Δαβίδ και είπε προς αυτόν, Ανάβα, στήσον θυσιαστήριον εις τον Κύριον εν τω αλωνίω Ορνά του Ιεβουσαίου. 19Και ανέβη ο Δαβίδ κατά τον λόγον του Γαδ, ως προσέταξεν ο Κύριος. 20Και ανέβλεψεν ο Ορνά και είδε τον βασιλέα και τους δούλους αυτού ερχομένους προς αυτόν· και εξήλθεν ο Ορνά και προσεκύνησε τον βασιλέα κατά πρόσωπον αυτού έως εδάφους. 21Και είπεν ο Ορνά, Διά τι ήλθεν ο κύριός μου ο βασιλεύς προς τον δούλον αυτού; Και είπεν ο Δαβίδ, Διά να αγοράσω το αλώνιον παρά σου, διά να οικοδομήσω θυσιαστήριον εις τον Κύριον, και να σταθή η πληγή από του λαού. 22Και είπεν ο Ορνά προς τον Δαβίδ, Ας λάβη ο κύριός μου ο βασιλεύς και ας προσφέρη εις θυσίαν ό,τι φαίνεται αρεστόν εις τους οφθαλμούς αυτού· ιδού, οι βόες εις ολοκαύτωμα και τα αλωνικά εργαλεία και τα εργαλεία των βοών διά ξύλα. 23Τα πάντα έδωκεν ο Ορνά, ως βασιλεύς, εις τον βασιλέα. Και είπεν ο Ορνά προς τον βασιλέα, Κύριος ο Θεός σου να ευαρεστηθή εις σε. 24Και είπεν ο βασιλεύς προς τον Ορνά, Ουχί, αλλά θέλω εξάπαντος αγοράσει αυτό παρά σου διά αντιπληρωμής· διότι δεν θέλω προσφέρει ολοκαυτώματα εις Κύριον τον Θεόν μου δωρεάν. Και ηγόρασεν ο Δαβίδ το αλώνιον και τους βόας διά πεντήκοντα σίκλων αργυρίου. 25Και ωκοδόμησεν ο Δαβίδ εκεί θυσιαστήριον εις τον Κύριον, και προσέφερεν ολοκαυτώματα και ειρηνικάς προσφοράς. Και εξιλεώθη ο Κύριος προς την γην, και εστάθη η πληγή από του Ισραήλ.
1Again Yahweh’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, “Go, number Israel and Judah.” 2The king said to Joab the captain of the army, who was with him, “Now go back and forth through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number the people, that I may know the sum of the people.” 3Joab said to the king, “Now may Yahweh your God add to the people, however many they may be, one hundred times; and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king delight in this thing?” 4Notwithstanding, the king’s word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the army. Joab and the captains of the army went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel. 5They passed over the Jordan, and encamped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and to Jazer: 6then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim Hodshi; and they came to Dan Jaan, and around to Sidon, 7and came to the stronghold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites; and they went out to the south of Judah, at Beersheba. 8So when they had gone back and forth through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. 9Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people to the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men. 10David’s heart struck him after that he had numbered the people. David said to Yahweh, “I have sinned greatly in that which I have done. But now, Yahweh, put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.” 11When David rose up in the morning, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying, 12“Go and speak to David, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.”’” 13So Gad came to David, and told him, and said to him, “Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land? Now answer, and consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.” 14David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let us fall now into the hand of Yahweh; for his mercies are great. Let me not fall into the hand of man.” 15So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the appointed time; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men. 16When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Yahweh relented of the disaster, and said to the angel who destroyed the people, “It is enough. Now stay your hand.” Yahweh’s angel was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. 17David spoke to Yahweh when he saw the angel who struck the people, and said, “Behold, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand be against me, and against my father’s house.” 18Gad came that day to David, and said to him, “Go up, build an altar to Yahweh on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.” 19David went up according to the saying of Gad, as Yahweh commanded. 20Araunah looked out, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him. Then Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground. 21Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” David said, “To buy your threshing floor, to build an altar to Yahweh, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.” 22Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him. Behold, the cattle for the burnt offering, and the threshing instruments and the yokes of the oxen for the wood: 23all this, king, does Araunah give to the king.” Araunah said to the king, “May Yahweh your God accept you.” 24The king said to Araunah, “No; but I will most certainly buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to Yahweh my God which cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. 25David built an altar to Yahweh there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So Yahweh was entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.

Alzo toog Joab uit, met de oversten des heirs, van des konings aangezicht, om het volk Israel te tellen. 5En zij gingen over de Jordaan, en legerden zich bij Aroer, ter rechterhand der stad, die in het midden is van de beek van Gad, en aan Jaezer. 6Voorts kwamen zij in Gilead, en in het lage land Hodsi; ook kwamen zij tot Dan-Jaan, en rondom bij Sidon. 7En zij kwamen tot de vesting van Tyrus, en alle steden der Hevieten en der Kanaanieten; en zij kwamen uit aan het zuiden van Juda te Ber-seba. 8Alzo togen zij om door het ganse land; en ten einde van negen maanden en twintig dagen kwamen zij te Jeruzalem. 9En Joab gaf de som van het getelde volk aan den koning; en in Israel waren achthonderd duizend strijdbare mannen, die het zwaard uittrokken, en de mannen van Juda waren vijfhonderd duizend man. 10En Davids hart sloeg hem, nadat hij het volk geteld had; en David zeide tot den HEERE: Ik heb zeer gezondigd in hetgeen ik gedaan heb; maar nu, o HEERE, neem toch de misdaad Uws knechts weg, want ik heb zeer zottelijk gedaan. 11Als nu David des morgens opstond, zo geschiedde het woord des HEEREN tot den profeet Gad, Davids ziener, zeggende: 12Ga heen, en spreek tot David: Alzo zegt de HEERE: Drie dingen draag Ik u voor; verkies u een uit die, dat Ik u doe. 13Zo kwam Gad tot David, en maakte het hem bekend, en zeide tot hem: Zal u een honger van zeven jaren in uw land komen? Of wilt gij drie maanden vlieden voor het aangezicht uwer vijanden, dat die u vervolgen? Of dat er drie dagen pestilentie in uw land zij? Merk nu, en zie toe, wat antwoord ik Dien zal wederbrengen, Die mij gezonden heeft. 14Toen zeide David tot Gad: Mij is zeer bange; laat ons toch in de hand des HEEREN vallen, want Zijn barmhartigheden zijn vele, maar laat mij in de hand van mensen niet vallen. 15Toen gaf de HEERE een pestilentie in Israel, van den morgen af tot den gezetten tijd toe; en er stierven van het volk, van Dan tot Ber-seba toe, zeventig duizend mannen. 16Toen nu de engel zijn hand uitstrekte over Jeruzalem, om haar te verderven, berouwde het den HEERE over dat kwaad, en Hij zeide tot den engel, die het verderf onder het volk maakte: Het is genoeg, trek uw hand nu af. De engel des HEEREN nu was bij den dorsvloer van Arauna, den Jebusiet. 17En David, als hij den engel zag, die het volk sloeg, sprak tot den HEERE, en zeide: Zie ik, ik heb gezondigd, en ik, ik heb onrecht gehandeld, maar wat hebben deze schapen gedaan? Uw hand zij toch tegen mij en tegen mijns vaders huis. 18En Gad kwam tot David op dienzelfden dag, en zeide tot hem: Ga op, richt den HEERE een altaar op, op den dorsvloer van Arauna, den Jebusiet. 19Alzo ging David op naar het woord van Gad, gelijk als de HEERE geboden had. 20En Arauna zag toe, en zag den koning en zijn knechten tot zich overkomen; zo ging Arauna uit, en boog zich voor den koning met zijn aangezicht ter aarde. 21En Arauna zeide: Waarom komt mijn heer de koning tot zijn knecht? En David zeide: Om dezen dorsvloer van u te kopen, om den HEERE een altaar te bouwen, opdat deze plage opgehouden worde van over het volk. 22Toen zeide Arauna tot David: Mijn heer de koning neme en offere, wat goed is in zijn ogen; zie, daar de runderen ten brandoffer, en de sleden en het rundertuig tot hout. 23Dit alles gaf Arauna, de koning, aan den koning. Voorts zeide Arauna tot den koning: De HEERE uw God neme een welgevallen in u! 24Doch de koning zeide tot Arauna: Neen, maar ik zal het zekerlijk van u kopen voor den prijs; want ik zal den HEERE, mijn God, niet offeren brandofferen om niet. Alzo kocht David den dorsvloer en de runderen voor vijftig zilveren sikkelen. 25En David bouwde aldaar den HEERE een altaar, en offerde brandofferen en dankofferen. Alzo werd de HEERE den lande verbeden, en deze plage van over Israel opgehouden.
