Πέτρου Α' 4

1Επειδή λοιπόν ο Χριστός έπαθεν υπέρ ημών κατά σάρκα, οπλίσθητε και σεις το αυτό φρόνημα, διότι ο παθών κατά σάρκα έπαυσεν από της αμαρτίας, 2διά να ζήσητε τον εν σαρκί επίλοιπον χρόνον, ουχί πλέον εν ταις επιθυμίαις των ανθρώπων, αλλ' εν τω θελήματι του Θεού. 3Διότι αρκετός είναι εις ημάς ο παρελθών καιρός του βίου, ότε επράξαμεν το θέλημα των εθνών, περιπατήσαντες εν ασελγείαις, επιθυμίαις, οινοποσίαις, κώμοις, συμποσίοις και αθεμίτοις ειδωλολατρείαις· 4και διά τούτο παραξενεύονται ότι σεις δεν συντρέχετε με αυτούς εις την αυτήν εκχείλισιν της ασωτίας, και σας βλασφημούσιν· 5οίτινες θέλουσιν αποδώσει λόγον εις εκείνον, όστις είναι έτοιμος να κρίνη ζώντας και νεκρούς. 6Επειδή διά τούτο εκηρύχθη το ευαγγέλιον και προς τους νεκρούς, διά να κριθώσι μεν κατά ανθρώπους εν σαρκί, να ζώσι δε κατά Θεόν εν πνεύματι. 7Πάντων δε το τέλος επλησίασε. Φρονίμως λοιπόν διάγετε και αγρυπνείτε εις τας προσευχάς· 8προ πάντων δε έχετε ένθερμον την εις αλλήλους αγάπην, διότι η αγάπη θέλει καλύψει πλήθος αμαρτιών· 9γίνεσθε φιλόξενοι εις αλλήλους χωρίς γογγυσμών· 10έκαστος κατά το χάρισμα, το οποίον έλαβεν, υπηρετείτε κατά τούτο εις αλλήλους ως καλοί οικονόμοι της πολυειδούς χάριτος του Θεού· 11εάν τις λαλή, ας λαλή ως λαλών λόγια Θεού· εάν τις υπηρετή, ας υπηρετή ως υπηρετών εκ της δυνάμεως, την οποίαν χορηγεί ο Θεός· διά να δοξάζηται εν πάσιν ο Θεός διά Ιησού Χριστού, εις τον οποίον είναι η δόξα και το κράτος εις τους αιώνας των αιώνων· αμήν. 12Αγαπητοί, μη παραξενεύεσθε διά τον βασανισμόν τον γινόμενον εις εσάς προς δοκιμασίαν, ως εάν συνέβαινεν εις εσάς παράδοξόν τι, 13αλλά καθότι είσθε κοινωνοί των παθημάτων του Χριστού, χαίρετε, ίνα και όταν η δόξα αυτού φανερωθή χαρήτε αγαλλιώμενοι. 14Εάν ονειδίζησθε διά το όνομα του Χριστού, είσθε μακάριοι, διότι το Πνεύμα της δόξης και το του Θεού αναπαύεται εφ' υμάς· κατά μεν αυτούς βλασφημείται, κατά δε υμάς δοξάζεται. 15Διότι μηδείς υμών ας μη πάσχη ως φονεύς ή κλέπτης ή κακοποιός ή ως περιεργαζόμενος τα αλλότρια. 16αλλ' εάν πάσχη ως Χριστιανός, ας μη αισχύνηται, αλλ' ας δοξάζη τον Θεόν κατά τούτο. 17Διότι έφθασεν ο καιρός του να αρχίση η κρίσις από του οίκου του Θεού· και αν αρχίζη πρώτον αφ' ημών, τι θέλει είσθαι το τέλος των απειθούντων εις το ευαγγέλιον του Θεού; 18και αν ο δίκαιος μόλις σώζηται, ο ασεβής και αμαρτωλός που θέλει φανή; 19Ώστε και οι πάσχοντες κατά το θέλημα του Θεού ας εμπιστεύωνται τας εαυτών ψυχάς εις αυτόν, ως εις πιστόν δημιουργόν εν αγαθοποιΐα.

1Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin; 2that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 3For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries. 4They think it is strange that you don’t run with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming: 5who will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit. 7But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer. 8And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. 9Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 10As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms. 11If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 12Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you. 13But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy. 14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. 15For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men’s matters. 16But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter. 17For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don’t obey the Good News of God? 18“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?” 19Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.

1Dewijl dan Christus voor ons in het vlees geleden heeft, zo wapent gij u ook met dezelfde gedachte, namelijk dat wie in het vlees geleden heeft, die heeft opgehouden van de zonde; 2Om nu niet meer naar de begeerlijkheden der mensen, maar naar den wil van God, den tijd, die overig is in het vlees, te leven. 3Want het is ons genoeg, dat wij den voorgaande tijd des levens der heidenen wil volbracht hebben, en gewandeld hebben in ontuchtigheden, begeerlijkheden, wijnzuiperijen, brasserijen, drinkerijen en gruwelijke afgoderijen; 4Waarin zij zich vreemd houden, als gij niet medeloopt tot dezelfde uitgieting der overdadigheid, en u lasteren; 5Dewelke zullen rekenschap geven Dengene, Die bereid staat om te oordelen de levenden en de doden. 6Want daartoe is ook den doden het Evangelie verkondigd geworden, opdat zij wel zouden geoordeeld worden naar den mens in het vlees, maar leven zouden naar God in den geest. 7En het einde aller dingen is nabij; zijt dan nuchteren, en waakt in de gebeden. 8Maar vooral hebt vurige liefde tot elkander; want de liefde zal menigte van zonden bedekken. 9Zijt herbergzaam jegens elkander, zonder murmureren. 10Een iegelijk, gelijk hij gave ontvangen heeft, alzo bediene hij dezelve aan de anderen, als goede uitdelers der menigerlei genade Gods. 11Indien iemand spreekt, die spreke als de woorden Gods; indien iemand dient, die diene als uit kracht, die God verleent; opdat God in allen geprezen worde door Jezus Christus, Welken toekomt de heerlijkheid en de kracht, in alle eeuwigheid. Amen. 12Geliefden, houdt u niet vreemd over de hitte der verdrukking onder u, die u geschiedt tot verzoeking, alsof u iets vreemds overkwame; 13Maar gelijk gij gemeenschap hebt aan het lijden van Christus, alzo verblijdt u; opdat gij ook in de openbaring Zijner heerlijkheid u moogt verblijden en verheugen. 14Indien gij gesmaad wordt om den Naam van Christus, zo zijt gij zalig; want de Geest der heerlijkheid, en de Geest van God rust op u. Wat hen aangaat, Hij wordt wel gelasterd, maar wat u aangaat, Hij wordt verheerlijkt. 15Doch dat niemand van u lijde als een doodslager, of dief, of kwaaddoener, of als een, die zich met eens anders doen bemoeit; 16Maar indien iemand lijdt als een Christen, die schame zich niet, maar verheerlijke God in dezen dele. 17Want het is de tijd, dat het oordeel beginne van het huis Gods; en indien het eerst van ons begint, welk zal het einde zijn dergenen, die het Evangelie van God ongehoorzaam zijn? 18En indien de rechtvaardige nauwelijks zalig wordt, waar zal de goddeloze en zondaar verschijnen? 19Zo dan ook die lijden naar den wil van God, dat zij hun zielen Hem, als den getrouwen Schepper, bevelen met weldoen.
