1Nejmilejší, ne každému duchu věřte, ale zkušujte duchů, jsou-li z Boha; nebo mnozí falešní proroci vyšli na svět. 2Po tomto znejte Ducha Božího: Všeliký duch, kterýž vyznává Jezukrista v těle přišlého, z Boha jest. 3Ale všeliký duch, kterýž nevyznává Jezukrista v těle přišlého, není z Boha; nýbrž toť jest ten duch antikristův, o kterémž jste slýchali, že přijíti má, a jižť jest nyní na světě. 4Vy z Boha jste, synáčkové, a svítězili jste nad nimi; nebo většíť jest ten, kterýž v vás, nežli ten, kterýž jest v světě. 5Oni z světa jsou, a protož o světu mluví, a svět jich poslouchá. 6My z Boha jsme. Kdo zná Boha, posloucháť nás; kdož není z Boha, neposloucháť nás. A po tomť poznáváme ducha pravdy a ducha bludu. 7Nejmilejší, milujmež jedni druhé; nebo láska z Boha jest, a každý, kdož miluje, z Boha se narodil, a znáť Boha. 8Kdož nemiluje, nezná Boha; nebo Bůh láska jest. 9V tomť zjevena jest láska Boží k nám, že Syna svého toho jednorozeného poslal Bůh na svět, abychom živi byli skrze něho. 10V tomť jest láska, ne že bychom my Boha milovali, ale že on miloval nás, a poslal Syna svého obět slitování za hříchy naše. 11Nejmilejší, poněvadž tak miloval nás Bůh, i myť máme jedni druhé milovati. 12Boha žádný nikdy nespatřil, ale milujeme-liť jedni druhé, Bůh v nás přebývá, a láska jeho dokonalá jest v nás. 13Po tomtoť poznáváme, že v něm přebýváme, a on v nás, že z Ducha svého dal nám. 14A myť jsme viděli, a svědčíme, že Otec poslal Syna spasitele světa. 15Kdož by koli vyznával, že Ježíš jest Syn Boží, Bůh v něm přebývá, a on v Bohu. 16A myť jsme poznali, a uvěřili o lásce, kterouž Bůh má k nám. Bůh láska jest, a kdož v lásce přebývá, v Bohu přebývá, a Bůh v něm. 17V tomtoť jest k dokonání svému přišla láska Boží s námi, abychom bezpečné doufání měli v den soudný, kdyžto, jakýž jest on, takoví i my jsme na tomto světě. 18Bázněť není v lásce, ale láska dokonalá ven vyhání bázeň; nebo bázeň trápení má, kdož se pak bojí, není dokonalý v lásce. 19My milujeme jej, nebo on prvé miloval nás. 20Řekl-li by kdo: Miluji Boha, a bratra svého nenáviděl by, lhář jest. Nebo kdož nemiluje bratra svého, kteréhož viděl, Boha, kteréhož neviděl, kterak může milovati? 21A totoť přikázaní máme od něho, aby ten, kdož miluje Boha, miloval i bratra svého.

1Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3and every spirit who doesn’t confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God, and this is the spirit of the Antichrist, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already. 4You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. 5They are of the world. Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them. 6We are of God. He who knows God listens to us. He who is not of God doesn’t listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 7Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves has been born of God, and knows God. 8He who doesn’t love doesn’t know God, for God is love. 9By this God’s love was revealed in us, that God has sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another. 12No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God remains in us, and his love has been perfected in us. 13By this we know that we remain in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as the Savior of the world. 15Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him, and he in God. 16We know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and he who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. 17In this love has been made perfect among us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as he is, even so are we in this world. 18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love. 19We love him, because he first loved us. 20If a man says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn’t love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother.

1Geliefden, gelooft niet een iegelijken geest, maar beproeft de geesten, of zij uit God zijn; want vele valse profeten zijn uitgegaan in de wereld. 2Hieraan kent gij den Geest van God: alle geest, die belijdt, dat Jezus Christus in het vlees gekomen is, die is uit God; 3En alle geest, die niet belijdt, dat Jezus Christus in het vlees gekomen is, die is uit God niet; maar dit is de geest van den antichrist, welken geest gij gehoord hebt, dat komen zal, en is nu alrede in de wereld. 4Kinderkens, gij zijt uit God, en hebt hen overwonnen; want Hij is meerder, Die in u is, dan die in de wereld is. 5Zij zijn uit de wereld, daarom spreken zij uit de wereld, en de wereld hoort hen. 6Wij zijn uit God. Die God kent, hoort ons; die uit God niet is, hoort ons niet. Hieruit kennen wij den geest der waarheid, en den geest der dwaling. 7Geliefden! Laat ons elkander liefhebben, want de liefde is uit God; en een iegelijk, die liefheeft, is uit God geboren, en kent God; 8Die niet liefheeft, die heeft God niet gekend; want God is liefde. 9Hierin is de liefde Gods jegens ons geopenbaard, dat God Zijn eniggeboren Zoon gezonden heeft in de wereld, opdat wij zouden leven door Hem. 10Hierin is de liefde, niet dat wij God liefgehad hebben, maar dat Hij ons lief heeft gehad, en Zijn Zoon gezonden heeft tot een verzoening voor onze zonden. 11Geliefden, indien God ons alzo lief heeft gehad, zo zijn ook wij schuldig elkander lief te hebben. 12Niemand heeft ooit God aanschouwd; indien wij elkander liefhebben, zo blijft God in ons, en Zijn liefde is in ons volmaakt. 13Hieraan kennen wij, dat wij in Hem blijven, en Hij in ons, omdat Hij ons van Zijn Geest gegeven heeft. 14En wij hebben het aanschouwd, en getuigen, dat de Vader Zijn Zoon gezonden heeft tot een Zaligmaker der wereld. 15Zo wie beleden zal hebben, dat Jezus de Zoon van God is, God blijft in hem, en hij in God. 16En wij hebben gekend en geloofd de liefde, die God tot ons heeft. God is liefde; en die in de liefde blijft, blijft in God, en God in hem. 17Hierin is de liefde bij ons volmaakt, opdat wij vrijmoedigheid mogen hebben in den dag des oordeels, namelijk dat gelijk Hij is, wij ook zijn in deze wereld. 18Er is in de liefde geen vrees, maar de volmaakte liefde drijft de vrees buiten; want de vrees heeft pijn, en die vreest, is niet volmaakt in de liefde. 19Wij hebben Hem lief, omdat Hij ons eerst liefgehad heeft. 20Indien iemand zegt: Ik heb God lief; en haat zijn broeder, die is een leugenaar; want die zijn broeder niet liefheeft, dien hij gezien heeft, hoe kan hij God liefhebben, Dien hij niet gezien heeft? 21En dit gebod hebben wij van Hem, namelijk dat die God liefheeft, ook zijn broeder liefhebbe.
