Uit de hof verdreven, onderweg naar huis: het grote verhaal van weggaan en terugkomen.
Mensen raakten 'hun thuis bij God' kwijt. De hele Bijbel gaat over God die ons terugbrengt. Jezus zegt: Ik maak een plek voor jou klaar.

Weg uit de hof
Therefore Yahweh God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.

God roept Abraham weg uit zijn land, naar een nieuw thuis.

Hebreeën 11 zegt: Abraham verwachtte eigenlijk 'de stad die fundamenten heeft'. Het echte thuis ligt verder.
Een land overvloeiende van melk en honing
I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

God hoort de roep van zijn volk in Egypte en komt het bevrijden.

God haalt zijn volk niet alleen uit de slavernij, Hij brengt het ook ergens heen.
Een nieuw verbond
Behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

Terwijl Jeruzalem valt en het volk in ballingschap gaat, belooft God een nieuw verbond, in het hart geschreven.
How it points ahead
De echte ballingschap is die van het hart. Jezus zegt bij het avondmaal: 'deze drinkbeker is het nieuwe testament in mijn bloed' (Lucas 22:20).
Troost, troost mijn volk
“Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God.

Aan ballingen in Babel: de straf is voorbij, maak de weg vrij, God komt.

De vader rende

Een zoon die alles verspeelde, komt terug. De vader ziet hem van ver en rent naar hem toe.

Zo ziet God de thuiskomst: niet met gefronste wenkbrauwen, maar met open armen.
In het huis van mijn Vader
In my Father’s house are many homes. If it weren’t so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you.

De avond voor zijn dood troost Jezus zijn leerlingen.

Jezus gaat zelf een plek klaarmaken. Hij is de weg naar huis (14:6).
Geen tranen meer
He will wipe away from them every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away.”

In de nieuwe schepping veegt God elke traan af.
